Canadians need to stop wasting time focusing on the very slight chance that the USA would ever use military force against Canada and focus more on the very real chance that the USA could cause us immense pain by turning off our access to the Visa and Mastercard clearing systems.

Et comment sommes-nous censés distinguer les bons drones de ceux qui sont armés et manipulés par des fous?

Xavier Jacques Côté@xavsworld.mas.to.ap.brid.gy

Sentences beginning “Guess what” are not questions, and thus don’t end with question marks. Ditto sentences beginning “I wonder.” #copyediting

There was never a better time to start shifting away from #Google. I know #degoogling totally is not easy but we can all take simple first steps, like signing up for another free email service and forwarding your Gmail address to it. #LakeOntario

Ships traveling between the upper Great Lakes and the Atlantic must pass through Canada’s Welland Canal. The 27-mile canal and all eight of its locks are entirely in Ontario, meaning a strategically important portion of U.S. Great Lakes maritime trade depends on Canadian-controlled infrastructure.

They should reduce a politician's pension every time they preface a statement with "Let me be clear:". A phrase overused to the point it has become meaningless.

Oh how I hate this too. It happens all the time with the Cyrillic alphabet as well. The result is nonsensical.

I am once again begging Hollywood to stop using the Greek alphabet for an Ancient World movie, if they can't afford to even throw a couple of quid at anyone with an inkling of the language. Unless they really think audiences are dying to see THS THDPSSSSPS

As a translator and proofreader I can testify to this. As a text reaches book length, the chances of properly spelled but misused words slipping through, like "pubic" instead of "public," increase greatly.

Turning Mitch McConnell into a meme in order to get attention is distasteful. I don't like his politics but he's still a human being with a family.

Lake Bogoria in Kenya‘s great rift Valley is a spectacular place to view flocks of up to 1.8 and 2 million lesser and greater flamingoes. The lakes high alkaline waters, foster massive blooms of blue green algae called spirulina which serves as a primary food source for these birds

Whenever I go out in public with my cane or walking poles, people invariably hold doors for me, make space for me, and regularly even make encouraging comments like "keep it up" or "looking good." The only place where people try to duck in front of/get around me is Costco (but that place is a zoo).

I went to #choir practice last night for the first time since my #stroke 10 months ago. It felt so amazing to do something so ordinary. It went well!

I just read the last page of Death of a Red Heroine by Qiu Xiaolong. What a gripping crime story full also of fascinating insights into life and the structure of society in 1990s China. I'm looking forward to reading the next in the Inspector Chen series. #booksky

"It is imperative that, in order to protect Global Peace and Security, strong measures be taken so that this perilous situation end quickly.” This sentence gives him away if nothing else does. He would never be able to describe the subjunctive mode, let alone use it in a sentence. #grammar

I called my cat a hot cross bun (for cooking in front of the fireplace for so long) and then realized: I haven't seen a hot cross bun in years. My mom used to buy them periodically as a treat but that was many years ago -- they must have drifted out of style here.

I've been quiet but working hard. I'm now taking bigger steps when walking and can even take a few steps without the cane; and I'm now able to write very slowly, use a fork or spoon, and floss my teeth. Long way to go still, but some small victories. It's been almost 5 months. #strokesurvivor

When I go out with ankle brace, knee brace and arm sling on, so many people ask me what happened, and I always sense disappointment when I tell them it was a stroke. I think I'll start saying it was from roof hopping.

I’ve been quiet on here but I have an excuse: I had a #stroke! Now at home and busy with #rehab, but I’m also back online (and it’s a lifeline for me especially now…).

After accidentally activating our living room Alexa umpteen times when all I meant to do was talk ABOUT her, I now refer to her in the third person as "Dingbat" and find that oddly satisfying.

For the first time I can recall in this century, a car passed me last night blasting Starship's "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" with the windows down. If that song is "retro cool" now I am concerned

I bought a 3-pack of cucumbers a couple of weeks ago and just today finished the last one before they could go bad. I feel like I deserve a sticker or something!

Honte à Netanyahu, tout son gouvernement et ceux qui le soutiennent pour le génocide sadique des Gazaouis. La phase actuelle d'élimination ethnique ne sera jamais pardonnée pour tous ceux qui y ont participé.

As a clue into my personality this would have been my dream job had my life matched this time period. So very interesting.

Tomorrow, Brill turns a sprightly 342 years old! Here's a fascinating glimpse into the typesetting process the press used in the 1970s, allowing it to print in nearly 30 non-Latin alphabets – including Arabic, Coptic, Syriac, Ethiopian, Sanskrit, Chinese and Japanese. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gqwe...

I feel blessed by the universe to have grown up during the late 70s & early 80s and been shaped by so much amazing music. Today's backdrop to morning coffee is The Fixx's Reach the Beach LP.

Oh MY, we are excited about our upcoming "Exhale" concert on May 24 - to say we've been holding our breath since "Inhale" last fall is only exaggerating a little. 🙃And we're partnering with our friends at Choirs for Change to make that weekend a double header for those interested: /2 🧵

The Roman amphitheatre in Verona is actually older than Colosseum, dating back to AD 30. It is a "working" UNESCO World Heritage Site, with 22,000 seats every summer for opera. The summer opera season started in 1913. It was used for Diodato's 2020 video. #RomanSiteSaturday
