Taking this excellent article at a tangent, I've been wondering whether any state might be first to "nationalise" fertility as a response to falling birth rates and changing life goals; any births versus none, eugenics versus bathwater. Happy Halloween, btw. www.theguardian.com/news/ng-inte...

What are the odds that Starlink and Starshield use the same physical hardware or overlapping hardware (or might be assumed to by anyone with the capability to destroy those satellites)? ...not to mention "defensive", like US flights from UK bases.

UK offering Freedom of Movement would be the game changer for conversations with the EU, one of the trio of people, pounds and positivity I identified earlier this year as crucial to any significant move to removing barriers.

A reminder that Russia’s economy is roughly the size of Texas’s. The United States spent trillions confronting Soviet imperialism during the Cold War. Russia lost. Decisively. There is no reason whatsoever for the US govt to fawn over Putin and treat Russia as though it were America’s equal.

Follow up question: is arms control on the agenda?

It shouldn’t bother me so much, but when people use ‘one bad apple’ they never complete the thought ‘spoils the whole barrel’. In other words it typically doesn’t mean what is intended, but it’s the unintended, correct, meaning that is typically true, in sweet revenge for linguistic purists.

Europe has stood by Ukraine since Russia started its war. And that is one of the reasons Russia has failed to achieve its goals. To end the war, we must pressure Russia, not Ukraine. Europe has the strength and influence to make a difference. My doorstep ahead of today’s European Council meeting↓

1/ Donald Trump's interview with Newsmax yesterday shows very clearly that he subscribes to many false Russian-originated claims and conspiracy theories about the war in Ukraine and has a strong personal dislike of President Zelenskyy. Here's a full transcript:

WTF? He wanted the incursion to succeed. He wanted Putin to have Ukraine by force in those first days. Nice to see you in the clear, at last.

10/ And if you remember, the tanks going up the highway right into Kyiv had the general, who was obviously not a very good general, not made a right turn into farmland, which was soaked and soaking wet from the heaviest rain in ten years.

ChrisO_wiki@chriso-wiki.bsky.social

21/ TRUMP: I'll tell you two things. Number one, had they not taken the right turn onto dirt, instead of going up a concrete highway, it would have ended in one day. So I can imagine Putin's not exactly thrilled because you're getting into six years.
