This absolutely needs to be the mindset in 2026, 2028, and beyond. There is no "reset," no "back to normal." There is only a building of something better and more resiliant to autocracy, which starts with turning norms into laws.

Republicans are going all in on AI-generated ads. Democrats, meanwhile, are shunning them and suggesting the ad campaigns are emblematic of a party that doesn’t care about the truth and can’t be trusted.

Hard to see how we ever revert to the democratic mean.

Once mass spam texts were made legal, younger donors vanished, leaving a grassroots fundraising machine that subsists on squeezing vulnerable seniors, some of whom give hundreds of times a day. It’s a horrific model. Consultants get generationally wealthy, and the party hollows out its future.

Brendan Carr, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, wrote on social media that broadcasters need to avoid “amplifying or airing” fake election polls. Anna M. Gomez, the lone Democrat on the commission, disagreed with Carr’s assertion.

These prices are all for the privilege of being inundated with ad content every eight minutes of a show, unless you are willing to pay even more. Essentially, we are now fully subsidizing the new era of network television.

Trump on Camp Lejeune water contamination claims: "If we win the House and Senate, I am directing the Department of Justice to settle all remaining legitimate claims as soon as possible ... if we don't win, there's no money."

I want to say, "Where were you during Trump 1.0?" but then I remember that it takes a "pants on fire" level of reality to reach low propensity voters.

This. After all the mid decade redistricitng, voter roll culling attempts, attacks against mai-in voting, efforts to pass the Save Act, and threats to have federal law enforcement at polls, there is no way he is not just going to give up. There are things to come in run-up and on election day.

It's not surprising that lying is a requirement of this administration. What is perhaps surprising is how many people are willing to completely debase themselves to do it.

When Jerome Powell was Fed Chair, it was all Jerome Powell's fault. Now that it's his hand-picked guy as chair, Kevin Warsh, it is the rest of the Fed Board's fault. Constantly shifting responsibility to fit a narrative must be exhausting.

Trump blames the Fed for sky high mortgage rates: "You have a board that would like to see the country do badly, in my opinion, because I think interest rates should come down"

One surprising thing from the Trump era is the level of cowardness and capitulation exhibited by institutions of power. Even in the face of evidence that pushback works and that the law is on their side, they continue to fall in line. It's a stain that will be hard to erase from history.

This is a nice piece that covers a number of ways to address student use of AI in writing. However, these strategies target in-person instruction and smaller classes.
