I’m on the DEI committee at work and I choke when we speak in abstractions about communities or use the tropes that raise people’s heart rates

Again, the context is poverty abatement. Unless you're talking six to seven figures out of the blue you are not meaningfully changing *trajectories* with one-time interventions. That's the point here. Interventions, to be successful, must be sustained over years. THAT's what changes trajectories.
