So. Uh. How *does* dating work?

Achievement unlocked: end of a relationship.

I care about her immensely. I’m glad we’re not going to be living together. I wish her first choice wasn’t to move to a different state. I worry about her. I can’t wait to start dating again. All of these things are simultaneously true.

I’m going to feel good about this once it’s over. For now, it’s a hell of a time for my body to have rediscovered the concept of “crying” after a quarter-century hiatus.

Achievement unlocked: end of a relationship.

It’s unambiguously a good thing. We never made good partners for each other. We stuck it out for more than 12 years out of fear and stubbornness. We shouldn’t have.

We’re on friendly terms. She’s not going to move out for a few months, until she can figure out where she wants to go and what she wants her living arrangements to be. We’ve just formalized what’s already been true for years: we’re friends and roommates, not less, but not more.

Only took until my mid-30s to do that for the first time.

and it's stronger in some places. I first noticed it on my chest and stomach. I get it easily on the inside of my forearms, and I get it passively from my pants against my legs.

but also. it's all over. I get it when I reach back and scratch my shoulder, or when I rub my face, or when I touch one finger to another.

I first noticed this last night while I was getting for bed. I wasn't wearing a shirt, and my hair fell onto my chest and brushed across it, and it was just. fuck. *fuck*. that's new. and that's incredibly, incredibly good.

and since then, almost every time I touch my skin, it's like there's this tiny film of *sensation* layered over it. like I'm touching the sensation first, and it only turns into touching the skin if I press harder.

heightened sensitivity to soft/textured touch specifically. took me a minute to realize. oh. this is a signal from my body. of all the things to be my first distinct E-side change, this was not the one I would have guessed At All, but I am extremely the opposite of complaining.
