The wall jump in Super Metroid is NOT broken and it’s not “too hard.” For proof, see all the many YouTube videos explaining as much

Today, I decided to dump all my thoughts about A.I. infecting the retro and Saturn scene into one cohesive article. In short, I am certifiably sick of this.

SEGA SATURN, SHIRO!@segasaturnshiro.bsky.social

Is there any harm in using AI to work on — or entirely create — projects for the Sega Saturn and elsewhere in the retro gaming scene? Yes, PandaMonium says in this opinion column, equating such work to digital asbestos: www.segasaturnshiro.com/2026/09/24/c... #sega #saturn #segasaturn #retrogaming

Its kinda funny really seeing how the whole internet vibe around Switch 2 right now has shifted from "This system is overpriced and has no games!" to "Hold up let Nintendo cook."

Oh hey! Saw a tweet long ago begging a journo to look into why trying to buy quality video game merch sucks shit. So I did that.

Kotaku@kotaku.com

It sucks trying to buy official merch and genAI is only making it worse. https://kotaku.com/why-does-trying-to-buy-a-video-game-t-shirt-suck-so-much-2000730574

IGN gets a lot of extremely rightful flack for being really homogenous. Many of its shows are consistently just rows of cis white men. There was a brief period of time, blessedly crossing over with my tenure, when that started to slowly change. (1/x)

Turn-based RPG sickos should not sleep on People of Note. Not only does it have endearing music and humor, but the battle system has a surprising amount of depth.

There are so many modifiers you can get to apply to your moves if you play it right, and it’s really satisfying to pull off a move that has 4-5 different conditions that each increase damage by 25-50%

Capcom is on a generational run. But this is no renaissance: the company has never been greater. I reported on the secret of its success, from "Crapcom" in the early 2010s to its one-banger-after-another present, speaking to many of its most illustrious producers. www.theringer.com/2026/09/03/v...

theringer.comHow Capcom Cracked the Code of Game DevelopmentThe video game industry is in turmoil, but 2026 could be Capcom’s career year. How does the company behind ‘Resident Evil Requiem,’ ‘Pragmata,’ and ‘Onimusha: Way of the Sword’ keep pumping out hits?

"No reasonable consumer thinks they own a digital game when they go to the PlayStation STORE, select BUY GAMES, put one in a SHOPPING CART, press PURCHASE and get an email that confirms the TRANSACTION with a RECEIPT listing the GAME," disingenuously argued Sony, pretending it's monumentally stupid.

oh hey, my first IGN review! Orbitals is a game that emulates its contemporaries but never rises above its inspirations in meaningful ways. An endearing romp that pulled out dormant nostalgia for the Toonami era and memories of watching anime I didn't understand as a kid in my parent's basement

Play South of Midnight, I am no longer asking

Kotaku@kotaku.com

Were you interested in South of Midnight but didn't wanna give Xbox money whyever that might have been? HAVE I GOT NEWS FOR YOU!https://kotaku.com/south-of-midnight-compulsion-games-bds-xbox-2000724140

So in Beast of Reincarnation I have to read three whole paragraphs of tiny text to figure out what my different moves do but you aren't going to actually pause the enemies to give me time to read them

I just finished all the content in Splatoon Raiders, and, oh boy, I had a ton of fun with that. At the beginning it plays much like Salmon Run, but by the end my build was so wild it was like playing a completely different game

Modern indie games are called stuff like Metamorpheria that's a dungeon crawler with lowpoly eldritch creatures with a static texture over them and they speak in 1337 at you with animal crossing sounds

There are three schools of thought in video game 3D platforming design The Mario: clear graphics/camera and the character's shadow let the player know exactly where he'll land The Assassin's Creed: mantling makes the margin of error tolerable The Dark Souls: platforming should suck so much ass
