Are ITV just using AI on the subtitles these days? The subs for Group Chat have been ludicrously bad. Rochelleran eighth Rhianna in the drooo Rhianna has AI's for Lynx Come on - you guys can definitely do better than this. #BBUK #BBTGC

Me, leaping over train station barriers naked: "I'LL HAVE YOU KNOW I'M VERY CONFIDENT ACTUALLY!" *Needlessly armed guards scramble wildly after me* Me as they tackle my wriggling body to the floor: "I HAVE THE MIGHT OF LIVERPOOL BEHIND ME!!!!!!* Arresting officer: "This is SCOTLAND you fanny." #bbuk

Sam is such a precious gem ❤️ You just want to ruffle his hair and put him in a Sylvanian Families hot air balloon 🎈🎃🪂 They should prescribe the Talking Inexplicably New York Pumpkin on the NHS for low moods #bbuk

...oh great, Philip has somehow revealed that he's gonna dig deep and be even MORE of an arsehole if he stays #bbuk

"Oh look, it makes me fucking SICK. They're all FUCKING hugging." Quiz time! Was this comment from: A. An historian looking at photos of soldiers celebrating a school bombing? B. Thatcher's ghost at Brighton Pride? C. A random woman on #bbuk seeing two friends express care for their crying friend?

Ok but the Award for Diplomatic Responses HAS to go to Frankie, for this yesterday, AND today's UTTER GEM ❤️ Philip: "I have to say, I feel VERY confident." Frankie (with blank face): ...I respect that. #bbuk

Yasmin, as Chief Engineer at Chernobyl: *smiles warmly, proudly down into the scorching abyss of nuclear spafftacular ruination and chaos* "I did that!" Frankie, panting, scooping up chunks of highly radioactive debris in a binbag suit: "Yeah nice one. Really excited to see where this goes." #bbuk

It's... Interesting that Twinks seems to have placed the great majority of Omar & Rhianna's "relationship drama" at RHIANNA'S door. In fact, seems a few of them do. Which is bleak.Like, I think it's WHOLLY valid to nom her for being an arsehole; but to nom HER for reacting, & NOT Omar is WILD. #bbuk

Life is FAR too short to stay with a man who needs babying to learn how to treat you like someone equally sentient. I mean it happens to the best of us, but I WISH they'd put a little disclaimer on the screen saying "THIS RELATIONSHIT SHOULD NOT BE ASPIRED TO OR TOLERATED" #bbuk

It's slightly odd how so many actors/directors go to great extremes to achieve 'authenticity' but that doesn't extend to being even slightly fat or ugly.

First they erased a ‘Protect the Dolls’ t-shirt from Strictly Come Dancing. Now they’ve erased Pride badges from University Challenge. The BBC are saying that our visibility as LGBTQ people is a political issue. Meanwhile they’ve commissioned a 2-part series on JK Rowling. Impartial? My arse!

If I were Sharon at that Round Table, I genuinely think I'd have just come out and said "you're all crap at this game". 😂 They couldn't find a Traitor if they wore a big hat saying 'Traitor'. I do think there should be a limit on Recruitment attempts, though. #Traitors #CelebrityTraitors

Rhianna PLEASE did you hear NOTHING your exceptionally chic sister SAID?! IT FEELS LIKE LOVE BECAUSE IT'S HOT AND COLD ALL THE TIME AND YOUR BRAIN GIVES YOU A *HUGE* DOPAMINE HIT EVERY TIME HE ELECTS TO BRIEFLY TREAT YOU LIKE AN ACTUAL HUMAN BEING! REAL LOVE, HEALTHY LOVE, DOESN'T WILDLY SPAFF #bbuk

I DGAF that Rhianna's not a fan of Rochelle, or even that she hasn't told her that; but what I DO find penissy is that it was only Friday's episode she was like "I have your BACK I will STAND for you I SWEAR on my sister's SOUL" and then REALLY slagging her off CONSTANTLY privately with Philip #bbuk

This is what happens when we end up with bullies in the house who are too concerned with pointing out things that are different or unusual instead of letting people just be themselves #BBUK

Look, we’ve all watched #BBUK we know every year someone will get a secret task…. If you catch someone doing strange stuff, DONT MENTION IT, you might spoil getting a treat if they fail

And another lesson as to why you should NEVER comment on anyone’s body even if you think you are being complimentary When my friend was dying of cancer I had to pull aside another friend who didn’t know who was telling them how their weight loss was looking really good 🤦‍♀️ #bbuk

I'm usually the last person to bed and get lumbered with hanging out the washing as people "forget" it's in the machine. I always use the lovely wooden hangers for my clothes and the terrible cheap plastic hangers for theirs if they have upset me. So up yours you bumholes

I love Glasgow Central station because you can't get a direct train to Glasgow airport but you can get one to Manchester airport

I LOVE that #bbuk Frankie describes his bi-ness as something he Found Out, because it always makes me picture a sombre doctor in a white coat gravely asking questions Year 8 kids would to determine one's "gayness" - and then shaking their head sadly and producing one of these:

Oh thank heavens, for a minute there I was worried Philip wouldn't find time for sexism; but there was even time for a delightfully bewildering snippet of ageism too. Fantastic, what a treat #bbuk

...aye you've done GREAT with the 'not-whispering', you just wait until they're out the room to MUTTER about how much you secretly can't stand them #bbuk

I think What We've Learnt from #bbuk is that a lot of people can't possibly know what the word "hierarchy" means; they've all acted like they've been accused of attending a Clap For Carers with ten gallons of shit on their hands.

Trigono-shitty : When the sneery trio are taking turns going to one another saying some variation of, "I *LOVE* [whoever's not there of the 3], *BUT* they're just SUCH a SHITTY stalky BORING two-faced CRAZY arsehole!!!!" #bbuk

... I can't even think of a snarky comment to make about what Rhianna said about Omar, I'm just SO baffled trying to connect any of those adjectives to him #bbuk

As an 8 y/o boy I had an irrational & deep seated dislike of ballet dancers. I believed ballet dancing as a profession was as commonplace as bricklaying & that I'd be coerced into spending my adult working life leaping about in tight fitting black pants.

Watching the #CelebrityTraitors investing all their trust in PRECISELY the trio who're eating them every night, is like watching Grandpa decide to vote for the Yeet The Elderly Into The Sea Party because the nice man gave him a free Parker pen, whereas the Love Party person seemed 'Too Intelligent'

I wonder if #bbuk Philip avoided telling the rest of Team Arse-House-in-the-Middle-of-Arse-Street about his friend suggesting NOT being arseholes in the hopes that, if he's the only one of them who knows everyone dislikes them, he can do a Redemption Arc while they stay unpopular - so if he's up

against any of the still-shite crew for eviction, the public will boot them and keep him? Almost any outsider knowledge is power in there, and he's such a spine-contorting opportunist it seems like Something He'd Do. Then again he's... erratic, so, maybe he wouldn't think THAT much. #bbuk

Two University of Leicester students speak out over ‘absurd’ and ‘Orwellian’ decision by the BBC and ITV Studios to edit out pride pins worn on University Challenge

leicester.newsBBC edits out pride pins on University Challenge in ‘Orwellian’ move* * * This story was published by **The Leicester Gazette** : a local, independent newspaper about Leicestershire. 1,000 people have already joined our community. Just use those buttons below to download our app and **sign up for free**. * * * Astrophysics student Samuel Carlier and History student Emmeline Hague-Wright were shocked to find that their LGBTQ+ pride pins had been edited out of their University Challenge appearance earlier this year. The episode, initially scheduled for BBC Two on 24 August, was delayed twice before airing on 7 September 2026. The pins showed the progressive LGBTQ+ pride flag, the bisexual pride flag and a rainbow feather. Speaking to the Leicester Gazette, Sam said: “Living in a liberal democracy and having the state broadcaster tell you ‘we’re editing how you look’, seems very Orwellian.” Sam described the choice to remove the pins before broadcast as “weird” and “absurd”. He said: “[Censoring] that seemed weird. If I had worn a rainbow shirt, would they have censored that? If the idea is to keep things impartial, where is that line in the sand?” A side by-side image of Sam wearing the pin and with it having been digitally removed. Photograph: supplied Sam contacted the BBC to try to understand why his pins had been edited out. He told the Gazette: “The BBC people said they’d ring me, and I chased them, they just said go to the complaints website and file a complaint there, that’s what I did.” Since then, Sam hasn’t had a response from the BBC as to why his pins were removed. After the episode had aired, Sam noted that his shirt ‘melted’ into itself occasionally, as a result of the editing. Photograph: supplied ## Students believe the decision was made following online transphobia Emmeline was also shocked when she found out that the feather pin she wore was due to be removed from the episode she was in. It was understood by Emmeline that there was online transphobia in response to previous episode of University Challenge, and she had been contacted by the BBC, anticipating support from the broadcaster. When the BBC contacted her, instead of an offer of support, she was told her pin was going to be removed. “At first it was mostly confusion,” she said. “I heard that they had received a lot of nastiness online from people and I thought they were going to call me to say ‘we have support services if needed,’ and that wasn't what I got at all.” Instead, Emmeline was notified that the episodes were going to be delayed. “It was out of left field, I was confused for a while,” she said. “This entire delay has been because of a feather and two badges on a teammate that were basically impossible [for viewers] to see.” Emmeline had expressed her frustrations with the repeated delays from the BBC, spanning from mid-July to early-September. She said: “We were announced on the website and then delayed again, and then announced on the website a second time, and delayed even further. Speaking about the removal, she said: “It takes a lot of time” she said. “Making it [the edit] look good would be even more expensive and time-consuming. It seems like drastically a lot of effort.” ## Join the conversation Our app is more than just a way to keep up – it's a gateway to award-winning journalism and the local community. __Want to support our work?__ Click here for membership__.__ ## Wider criticism on LGBTQ+ support The pins Sam wore during the episode. Photograph: supplied According to leading LGBTQ+ charity Stonewall UK, two in five LGBTQ+ students will hide their identities at university for fear of discrimination. Stonewall has reported that more than 36 per cent of trans students have received hostile conduct from university staff due to their gender identity. Reflecting on the digital removal of the pins, Sam spoke about how disheartening the choice was. He said: “There was maybe like a span of eight years where someone could be uncontroversially out in the open queer – now that’s gone again.” he said. The BBC has also been widely criticised for ‘an attack on the LGBTQ+ community’ by pulling its involvement with the popular show, RuPaul's Drag Race. The broadcaster pulled its involvement in September following “significant financial pressures” as the reason for axing their involvement. The criticism follows another recent controversial edit by the BBC. On its hit show, Strictly Come Dancing, a decision was made to edit out ‘Protect the Dolls’ from contestant Bethany Antonia’s T-shirt. It’s a slogan which has become widely used to support the rights of trans women. The BBC defended their decision, saying the changes were made to meet editorial guidelines. It comes as the LGBTQ+ community has faced challenges amid an increasingly less tolerant political climate. ## What the BBC had to say When we asked them about editing out the pins worn by Leicester’s University Challenge team, a BBC spokesperson said: “In line with our editorial guidelines, we advise that no badges, flags, and emblems or symbols are worn or visible during filming, along with clothing with obvious branding or slogans. If such items are not removed for any reason then a decision is made between the programme makers and the BBC regarding any edits to the programme.” The BBC said the delays to the episode were unrelated to the decision to edit out the pins. A spokesperson for ITV Studios said: “University Challenge is an entertainment quiz show and is made in accordance with the BBC Editorial Guidelines requirements for impartiality.” The University of Leicester refused to comment on the matter. * * * **Before you go…** We’ve recently surpassed 1,000 subscribers, which is amazing considering we’re a small team on a shoestring budget.
