I wonder why the majority of community members in Spokane feel that they have to use social media to engage with their community? It’s almost like traditional, non-permanent and easy to access ways of connecting with one another have been criminalized. Crazy.

If you’re in Spokane/the INW and you’re choosing to sit out of voting when you have the ability, on this election specifically, Blotto is gonna bonk you with a comically large hammer.

Nanette and Rue here—- we’re actually very not fine & this is a special layer of hell which, while we’re like okay at walking through fire & brimstone, it’s CERTAINLY NOT OUR FAVORITE

We’re going to take the next week to figure out next steps, but best believe it won’t be continuing to engage or support ANY meta platforms. If you want to make sure you’re connected before we go, come see us in person, shoot a dm to get added into our discord server or find us on patreon.

we’re probably gonna have our instagram account banned in the next 48hrs. Fuck meta for prioritizing money, technofeudalism and your fucking ego over the lives of human beings and the planet. Artists aren’t your fucking free labor.

As a final note, and to be crystal clear— PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANY DONATIONS TO SPLAT. THIS INCLUDES ANY PHYSICAL OR MONETARY DONATIONS.

We will be sharing direct links to Splat community members GoFundMe’s if you’d like to directly donate. We love you so much Spokane. Take care of yourselves, and we’ll see you Thursday.

SPLAT will be stepping away from the direct action front of community relief, and instead focusing our efforts on support and logistics (as needed and with what we can actually do).

The Spokane Arts community has stepped up in ways I truly have not seen in years. I am so proud of every single one of you, of your heart, your works and your compassion. Now it is time for you to rest, and for the next industry to step up.

The last week and a half have been horrifying and full of more care than we could’ve ever imagined. As fires continue burning, our city continues to show up and not only provide what is necessary for folks to have a safe place to lay their head, but exemplify what it means to be a caring Neighbor.

When we come together, united under common purpose, with the understanding that we do not have to agree on everything or get along to be in community with one each other, to want one another to be safe, we can move mountains.

and ya know what, I actually AM angry that this is happening. This isn’t an Act of God. This was an entirely preventable crisis. And now we, the COMMUNITY, are yet again paying for the greed of a few. #SpokaneComplexFire

#Spokane has more kind & caring folks in it than we (or anyone else) gives us credit for. Over the last 48 hours I have seen folks come together, put aside differences and Take Care Of Shit.

After years now of gutted resources, unobstructed climate change and unsafe housing conditions, we are now past the point of 60k evacuees. Countless homes lost. Climate change IS your problem. Voting, using your voice, doing your part IS your responsibility.

Our city is being ravaged by a wildfire that could’ve been prevented. The community, the PEOPLE AFFECTED, are the ones pulling together to ensure our safety.

and if you haven't downloaded watch duty yet, it's free i cannot stress enough that this is the worst wildfire thing that has happened in #spokane... i think ever? i've lived here 20 years and we've never had a fire like this in residential areas before. please share resources and donate if you can

Screenshotting this from instagram because I have typed the same thing too many times today. Spokane is showing up for our neighbors. Continue to show up, this Friday, 5-8pm @ Splat

We're fucked at @splatspokane.org if something like this goes down. It doesn't matter though—the work is too important.

I’ve been doing some in-depth reporting on the Prairieland cases, and had to get this out first as I continue to dig: I spoke with Ana Bell, sister of Des, who it turns out co-owns and runs an indie bookstore. We talked about the case, the judge, book banning, ICE killings, and living through this:

Splat will always and forever celebrate the individuals and communities who have fought, sacrificed and preserved to create an America worth living in. What we WON’T celebrate is systemic colonialism, theocratic fascism, and the ongoing subjugation of citizens worldwide by the American government

It’s pretty fucking cool that Spokane has a Pride festival that’s actually focused on community connections and uplifting the actual queer community here, not just banks and rainbow colored arms dealers.

hopelessness mixed with a desire for action is a dangerous mix that will leave you running in circles arguing shit on the internet instead of actually acting. it is in your best interest to be unendingly hopeful.

This unlawful conviction is a reminder that our government views these ideals (and information in general) as a threat. It is a reminder to be safe, be smart, and to strengthen community ties.

Splat will continue to produce and distribute zines. Splat will continue to share information, address the political and social inequities that affect us all, and most importantly, continue to provide a space for community to gather together. A threefold cord is not easily broken.

Splat stands by the values of freedom of press, expression and opinion. We believe that information is meant to be shared, and communities have a right to not only speak their opinions/stories, but a right to defend themselves as well.

love seeing everyone band together to say “fuck you” to AI in the name of saving our environment. Now go pick up litter in your neighborhood.
