64 years ago, on the 27th of September 1962, Rachel Carson's book Silent Spring was published. It handled the environmental harm caused by the pesticide DDT and the disinformation spread by the chemical industry. Carson managed to sway public opinion and even policy. #otd #history 🗃️

Today’s #birdpaintingoftheday Celebrates the yellow headed black bird I remember the first time seeing these birds It was in a gas station parking lot Not the place I thought I’d find magic #birdart

#birdpaintingoftheday puffin pastel painting for today’s bird painting. This little puffin looks concerned but I think they are always slightly concerned Perhaps because I’m staring at them.

Northern bald ibis for today’s #birdpaintingoftheday These are one of the rarest birds in the world but their numbers are climbing thanks to efforts happening in Austria, Germany and Spain

#birdpaintingoftheday is a cactus wren in red. Saw this little guy dancing underneath hot cars in Tucson picking off bugs Why he’s red is why most of my art is colorful - he/she just felt red to me. So the only way to capture the moment was in reds. And pinks.

Id love to Fly around the world Like an arctic tern, where everywhere is home. But I’ll skip the cold spots A little Arctic Tern painting for #superseabirdsunday #birdpaintingoftheday

Today’s #birdpaintingoftheday A California condor looking out into the world that is their’s now Part of a series about animals recovering from being extinct in the wild.

Today’s #birdpaintingoftheday A roseate spoonbill Who might be curious why I spent so much time staring at it. It was so I could play with pink pastel (and paint) Also these birds are very cool to encounter in the wild. This one was inspired by bird we found in Spring Island, SC

Today’s #birdpaintingoftheday Flapping common loon in mixed media. One of my favorite memories of spending the summer on a lake in the Adirondacks is watching the loons by moonlight. This painting was inspired by daylight shenanigans Acrylic. Watercolor. And embroidery on canvas.

Rewinding helps Going back to nature is the answer Anything else is just someone trying to make money Make nature cool again.

Today’s #birdpaintingoftheday is pastel of a Verreaux's eagle. These birds look intense and this one really was like thjs up close in personal when I met it at a falconer’s meet up in Arizona…

Today’s #birdpaintingoftheday White storks flying Did you know they are successfully reintroducing white storks to England? @kneppwilding.bsky.social is helping establish a breeding population. Which is pretty amazing considering the last breeding pair in uk prior to 2020 was like 600 years ago

That red color 😍

The Crimson-bellied Woodpecker 35 cm wet forests of South and Central America Diet insects and larvae inside tree bark Monogamous pairs carve the nest in a tree, then share all duties equally for 28days. After chicks fledge they stay together for 6 weeks parents teaching them to feed on their own

If I can keep up with it, sharing a bird painting everyday. Today’s bird painting is from the archives - a great blue heron looking out in the distance and not at the toads and fish below. #birdpaintingoftheday #birdart

Snatching capelin is the best part of a kittiwake’s day. For #SuperSeabirdSunday, celebrating the black legged kittiwake this week Acrylic & watercolor Paint #birdart

Today is International Vulture Awareness Day! Why are these funky-looking birds so cool? As the cleanup crew, they keep the ecosystem balanced and prevent the spread of diseases. Spread of a few recent studies of vultures—mostly paint and pen. #vultures #internationalvultureawarenessday

Black vultures are social and can’t smell very well compared to turkey vultures and they only grunt and hiss. But since they use their keen eyesight to find carcasses, they must enjoy color - particularly red. Just a colorful black vulture portrait - a new #painting #artshare #vultures

A little ode to the quirky clown of the sea aka the Atlantic puffin, for #superseabirdsunday Various paintings of puffins created over the last few years… #birdart #paintings

There are so many amazing things about California condors including they can reproduce through parthenogenesis - however the most amazing thing? They fly wild after going extinct in the wild in the 1980s. If you see them fly, it’s magic. #painting study to reveal that magic #sketchbook #vulture

Another sneak peek at the #vulture #paintings I’m working on. I have a soft spot for Griffon vultures after seeing them soar in the Pyrenees It’s magic to see something so right and as exactly as it should be - beautiful #birds just where they should be after facing near extinction in the 1960s.

cinereous vultures have a ten foot wing span They are also into dead animals But I don’t hold it against them Instead i think it’s pretty cool they are a part of the clean up crew. cinereous vulture #painting #art #acrylic

Happy first day of August, and happy first week of #AugustAdventures2026!!! To participate, create artwork inspired by either ONE of BOTH of that week's prompts, post it and tag #AugustAdventures and/or #AugustAdventures2026.

Favorites are hard to choose. Every new painting is my favorite but the paintings that still make me smile are in another category The woodchuck eating apples is one of those #art #artrepostjuly #artchallenge

All parts of an environment are important in or reintroducing animals. We tend to fixate on the animals but they can’t come back if their environment lacks food & plants can’t survive without bugs… success is rebuilding the ecosystem not just animals reproducing. #artrepostjuly #artchallenge #art

When ecosystems recover, wildlife benefits — and so do people, with less downstream flooding, healthier landscapes and improved resilience to climate change. It's time to think bigger and wilder. Let's help the species that help nature recover. 🧵5/5

Visited the Frederic Remington museum on Ogdensburg yesterday. Lots of interesting work and they tell a story of a man who worked hard to be the best and be recognized for it. He achieved some dreams but was taken from this world rather early at 48. #arthistory #fredericremington

His sculptures are the real draw but I enjoyed this painting as well. It seemed like he was starting to bring emotion into his work before he passed #arthistory #discover

Plant - My favorite are the ones that appear when you need it most. Fire flowers appearing a season after a forest fire is one example - embroidery and mixed media on canvas #artrepostjuly #artchallenge #art
