"I have read the charging document" is coldhearted.

VA Gov. Abigail Spanberger: “The timing of this indictment undermines the U.S. Department of Justice’s previously longstanding policy of not taking legal actions — to include indictments or significant investigative steps — close to an election and sadly..." bluevirginia.us/2026/10/brea...

Governor Spanberger on Twitter today. MAJ Wilkerson was from a military family. She graduated from Maury High School and VCU. A quarter century after 9/11 and Virginians are still dying in the Middle East. We owe our soldiers sound and moral leadership and coherent strategic thinking.

Famed election analyst Chaz Nutteycombe is being cute on Twitter. But the meaning is clear. He's saying that Spanberger's crushing 58-42 victory in 2025 is the floor, not the ceiling, for Virginia Democrats. That would put VA-05, maybe even VA-06 on the table. And hopefully be repeated nationwide.

Does Crowley get honorary CIA membership for this?

Blue Virginia@bluevirginia.bsky.social

So Gov. Abigail Spanberger now has campaigned for Democratic WI-GOV nominee David Crowley, while former Gov. Glenn Youngkin has campaigned for Crowley's far-right/MAGA extremist opponent, Tom Tiffany. My money's on Crowley... ;) bluevirginia.us/2026/09/vide...

Social media feeds people simplistic good and bad narratives, such that they recoil from any kind of nuanced take. When there's a powerful new technology, "use it with appropriate guardrails" is better than a wholesale rejection.

Governor Spanberger talking up the damage Trump is doing to the Virginia beef industry. There's a tension between blaming him for tariffs, and blaming him for waiving tariffs. But it's the chaotic, ad hoc approach that damages business. Central planning minus the planning.

Only a few generations removed. Advances in liberty are not the inevitable tide of history, but the result of years of activism. And they have to overcome dedicated reactionary sentiment, not just apathy or inertia. The fight goes on.

Full video is here. She starts at 4:15 and speaks for 31 minutes. Some applause, some laughs. Also she gave a nice tribute to state senator Janet Howell. www.youtube.com/live/XyIekKV...

A hugely under-appreciated part of Fairfax County. Lots of immigrants. Probably on-edge about the ICE encounter in Falls Church. I'll see if I can find the Univision clip.

Delegate Paul Krizek@paulkrizek.bsky.social

Great visit to Neighborhood Health on Richmond Highway at Beacon Hill in Mount Vernon by Virginia Governor Spanberger today! She answered all the tough questions including in Spanish from @Univision

Also in this event, bad-faith Sinclair progagandist Nick Minock asked if she'd support a data center moratorium. She said no, it's up to the localities to ban or welcome them as they see fit.

Reports of her unpopularity were greatly exaggerated. There was a basis for it; that's why she has higher disapprovals than Warner and Kaine. But this poll puts it into perspective. Dem critics of hers are highly online, but only a small portion of the actual electorate.

Blue Virginia@bluevirginia.bsky.social

Morning Consult has Spanberger +17 (54%-37%), Trump MINUS 21 (38%-59%) in Virginia. Also, Tim Kaine at 52%-32%, Mark Warner at 56%-30%. bluevirginia.us/2026/08/wedn...

For those of you who don't want to read her WaPo op-ed, this story explains it pretty well. bsky.app/profile/cbs6...

Congrats to the following Dem nominees who won tonight: VA-01: Shannon Taylor VA-02: Elaine Luria VA-05: Tom Perriello VA-08: Don Beyer VA-09: Joy Powers Abigail went 100% on endorsements, as expected.

But to all the candidates who took a long shot and lost: thanks for stepping up. Abigail did that herself 8 years ago. I praise her talents more than anyone; but in another circumstance or another district, she could be one of these people getting 20% of the vote or less in a primary.

Senator Russet Perry and Governor Spanberger had some bad blood over the data center listening tour. But I guess they reconciled, because Oak Hill State Park was added to the budget as an amendment. Oak Hill in Loudoun is the former home of James Monroe, where he retired after his presidency.

"Planes that land safely don't make the news." The numbers reported in here are spectacular. Double digit decreases in all sorts of categories of violence. That's a vast amount of human misery alleviated. And it's due to competent work from the executive, not new laws. Still work to be done.

The Virginia State Senate posted their budget online, ahead of the 2 PM Sunday deadline to avoid a shutdown. As soon as journalists read it and break it down, we'll know who got the longer end of the stick in the Spanberger vs. Lucas fight.

The budget proposed by the Virginia House of Delegates would remove the Confederate statues from the Virginia Capital grounds. Naturally the Blue Checks on the other site are enraged and crying about Spanberger's cruelty.

Housing is one of the biggest issues facing the commonwealth. It's why Virginians leave the state for places like Texas or North Carolina. So it's great to see her sign this. Congrats also to Cavco for getting to host this and give a tour of their facilities.

Putting words in her mouth. "Stop talking about it" is not the same thing as "don't do it." As the article says, she'd be open to new maps for 2028. But first we have to hit the near term target in 2026. After that, we'll have enough data to formulate a proper, national response.

Now Spanberger wants Democrats to give up on redistricting

A lot of people are pissed at Spanberger's swath of vetoes. They're best understood as a power play against the legislature. They figured they would have another Northam-like figure, who would rubber stamp whatever they passed. But she's demanding an actual seat at the table when creating policy.

When you had Dem leaders dismissing her and trying to leverage the GOP effort propaganda against her, she's gonna play hardball right back. Especially as each side tries to hold firm on the budget negotiations.

The trick is to only be fans of the most dynamic and successful politicians, who will never miss a beat or let you down.

Sam@samd.bsky.social

I frequently criticize “politics as fandom” but there’s no better example than people willing to risk the house majority needed to stop fascism because they think that people on death’s door “deserve” a seat

Local governments are facing a lot of fiscal pressures in this economy. She was right to demand a slower timeline. Also, she can't just yield to the General Assembly and their clownlike behavior forever. Eventually she has to call their bluffs.

Chris Seaman@cbseaman.bsky.social

If accurate, this is a massive own goal by @abigailspanberger.com. Public-sector employees in VA worked their butts off to elect her last year. More importantly, they deserve the job security and a real voice at the table that come with collective bargaining. vadogwood.com/news/labor/b...

A couple things going on here. 1) People ascribing things to Spanberger when they're actually the actions of AG Jay Jones or the legislature. Jones is the one going to SCOTUS.

When a general says "not the hill to die on" it doesn't mean he wants to win less than a hotheaded colleague. It's an assessment of the best place to achieve a broader victory. Win campaigns, not battles.

For VA Dems it's better not to burn down SCOVA over a couple of US House seats. The better course is to flip it via normal retirements and get a 10-1 map in 2028. And not the 10-1 map we had, but a cleaner, more streamlined one that incorporates the Nov 2026 data.

2) This false idea we can win everything all the time if we just "fight harder." It's a strategically ignorant view of things. Just as in a military campaign, you need to view the array of friendly and enemy forces, the terrain, the other situational factors, and decide on the best course of action.

She wasn't running for president on 2028 anyways, that timeline doesn’t work for VA Govs.

Sam@samd.bsky.social

No! The voters already had their say! They voted for new maps! Spanberger can kiss her presidential ambitions goodbye if she doesn’t fight this

Means little, but I'm still quite happy to see Spanberger back in the positive. This poll has her polling 1.7 points ahead of the redistricting referendum, the opposite narrative from the last poll we saw.

Blue Virginia@bluevirginia.bsky.social

This is very good for VA Dems, especially since it's from a right-wing-Republican group! (Spanberger 52% approve-41% disapprove; Trump 39% approve, 60 disapprove; Dems up 51%-37% in the generic Congressional ballot for 2026) bluevirginia.us/2026/05/tues...
