Haven’t had the time/energy to make progress on Tartlets the past few days - but I did make progress on my Sorbet Games tapestry! Gonna hang it up in my office so I don’t forget about my dreams (it happens, I have adhd) 🍒🧶

As someone who started using Notion for their game dev project management before they added all the AI nonsense, I am pleased to report that if you simply email Notion, they will remove AI from your workspace ✨💕😌💖💫

Welcome to the Tartlets Bakery! We seem to be missing some ovens...... but you know what they say, you can't edit a blank page! (Don't worry, ovens are up next! 🍰) #indiegame #gamedev #indiedev #cozygame

We're movin and groovin!!!!!!!!! Starting over from scratch (which isn't a lot lol) and working once again on getting a playable demo out! Also - this project now has a name - Tartlets! 🍰💕 #gamedev #indiedev #cozygame

I did stay up until 2am to watch a cursed speed run of one of my all time favorite games (pokemon emerald!) and soak in the last bits of good vibes from agdq. It would be a dream come true to have a game I made at gdq… but I gotta make one first! back to work next week 💪🏻

yesterday i finished up making some sprite sheets, including our first customer! she's based on my poodle, Lace 💕🍰🐩 taking a break today to take care of myself, my family, and write to my representatives. my timeline for this project did not account for world events happening in my city 👿

More art progress today!! I think it's starting to look pretty cute 🍰🥺 #cozygame #indiedev #gamedev

first workday of the year! my goal is to get a little demo of my bakery game out by February 🍰 Today I reworked the layout of the bakery (more food truck-esque) and it’s no longer floating in a void! Working on getting the v1 assets done this week 💕 #gamedev #indiegamedev #cozygame

made tweaks to our little baker and started mocking up ideas for the new bakery layout! 🍰 also made some decisions about the gameplay that gave me a bit of a headache 😵‍💫 #gamedev #cozygame #indiegamedev

game update! 🍰 i've decided on the more handrawn/illustration style - mostly because it's closer to my own art style (which seems obvious now lol) so today i did some character sketches, polished one of them up, and made this little breathing/idle animation! #gamedev #indiegamedev #cozygame

also attempting to make my own tile sheet, which is a little bit off at the moment. mostly just trying to get the ~vibe~ right now!

Today's focus is art direction and planning ahead! I want to do some irl baking for new year's so I'm keeping things light(er). I'm torn between pixel art and a more hand-drawn vibe... so I'm going to try both! I'm going to try out making little cakes in both styles and see what makes more sense.

My end goal for this game is for it to be like a less stressful Cake Mania. I've been playing Tiny Book Shop and Sticky Business lately and I really love the idea of setting up a shop and then customers browsing on their own - much more like an actual bakery.

Current plan is to get the core baking mechanics and general art direction nailed down enough to release a vertical slice demo by February and get feedback! Then, I'd love to turn this into a full release with tons of different cakes and decorations.

here's how far we got today! the ui is Not Cute but i'm still trying to focus on figuring out godot. now that i've got the bones, i am bursting with ideas to make it actually fun! i'm pretty proud of it so far for my first non-tutorial game! 🍰 #gamedev #indiegamedev #cozygame #madewithgodot

🥧 progress today: CUSTOMERS!!!! they walk in, find a pie, take a pie, and leave! (or walk in and wander around for a bit if there are no pies available) #indiegamedev #gamedev #madewithgodot

I wanted to try getting as far as I had previously in Gamemaker with making a simple bakery game in Godot - and I actually got a little further! Oven bakes pie, player can pick up pie, and player can set pie on a display for customers to pick up! (Art is placeholder from asset packs)

I've figured out how to change the color of the character sprite to make customers (I didn't want to find another sprite and it was a learning opportunity!) and have customers spawning in!! Next, I need customers to walk towards the displays and buy the pies!

I wasn't lying when I said I was back in my game dev era - I am going to be doing a visual novel game jam in January! But until then, I'm making this tiny tiny game to learn the ropes of Ren'Py. I've been playing with the UI today ☺️ (I have NOT made the art for this)

in the year 2025 i realize i must clarify further: art is composite graphics from Canva and the characters are from a picrew - this is strictly to learn the ropes and not something I'm releasing

Today I added the ability to pick up a frosted cake, added a functioning compost bin, cleaned up some code… and found a new issue where the right-most oven is triggered when using the frosting station 🤪 Once that’s fixed - time to add customers!!! 🎉🍰 #gamedev #cozygame #indiedev
