NEW PODCAST: www.sofpodcast.com/2026/10/soun... According to the Independent Football Regulator, 94% of professional football clubs in England ran at a loss last year. With so many clubs reliant on support from benefactors, what happens the next time the economy suffers a financial crisis?

The Beasley Table returns.

Andrew Beasley@andrewbeasleyfootball.com

Very early days but the Champions League table begins to take shape. Real Madrid the only team with two wins against teams from the top two pots. Tougher tests to come for Stuttgart. Inter will probably be fine, Slavia Prague rather less so.

NEW PODCAST: www.sofpodcast.com/2026/09/soun... Manchester City have been found guilty of all Premier League charges against them, in what could be the biggest sporting fraud ever. So what happens now? But could political pressure save the club from the most severe punishment.

I first met Jack back in 2010 at an event we helped organise for football writers and bloggers. I remember it because it was the day City signed David Silva, which made young Jack very happy. This must have been a very difficult but entirely necessary piece for him to write.

How should Manchester City fans feel about the charges? Where should they direct their anger? My piece: www.nytimes.com/athletic/763...

Manchester City cheated Premier League rules, the Commission found. Did it also cheat HMRC? We've examined the decision and leaked Mancini documents. We think City likely failed to pay £12m in tax. There should be a criminal investigation. Thread:

Anyone wondering how the panel was was set up and why it took so long to come to a decision, this piece from a few months ago is especially helpful. Reading now it seems that a mix of scenario 7 and 8 was the most likely reason for delay. Scenario 3 is a must-read. www.thelawyer.com/where-is-the...

In the chat, we discussed how kicking City out would damage the brand of the Premier League. The answer would appear to be not much. Out of the so-called Big 6, City are the only side without a club-specific podcast produced by The Athletic (Why Always Me was binned-off in 2024)

Perhaps the most impish suggestion from this week's pod was if City do go under as result of the Mansour being divested and the club buckling under the debt of fines and legal action, will United move into the City of Manchester stadium?

In context - I rewatched it and blinked at least a dozen times during it.

Stefan Bienkowski@sbienkowski.bsky.social

That leaked Ferran Soriano video to Man City staff is 209 seconds long and he doesn’t blink once in it. Which suggests to me that it was made with AI.

We’ve taken a break this week. If that’s left a hole in your listening why not listen to us talking about a 33 year old action movie…

The Oddjob Pod returns with another episode. Join me, @garyandrews.bsky.social and @firefli.es as we enjoy dissecting The Fugitive. www.oddjobpod.com/2026/09/acti...

Disney obviously didn’t get the memo about hydration breaks not being a thing anymore. Put a three minute ad break in the middle of the second half of Arsenal Women’s Champions League game
