The nation reeled once again this week with news that the Department of Defense broke the historic Eisenhower Globe. Could the metaphor be any more obvious?

Today, Elizabeth "Lily" Shambrook was honored with a memorial sign, designating part of Leland Ave by Dover St as "Lily's Greenway".

Any response @nytimes.com?

🧵I'm going to say this carefully -my heart aches for those now mourning -every unnecessary death is a tragedy -what did you expect from ppl at the sharp end of guns & bulldozers? -in early Oct, Israeli military+settlers killed 5 Palestinians in the WBank & 57 in Gaza—why isn't that "breaking news"?

Corrupt Trump/GOP scapegoat LGBTQIA+ people, hoping we’ll forget about Trump/GOP’s skyrocketing costs of everything for Americans! Our $ for public education, healthcare, food, tax payer $, goes directly into self-dealing Trump/GOP’s billionaire pockets! Trump/GOP make Americans poorer & less safe!

Now that both parts are up, here's a short 🧵on my deep dive into why American roads are a sea of SUVs and trucks – and no, it's not just "consumer demand." 🙄 First: the light truck loophole — which was closed recently! But not in a way people are celebrating ...

usa.streetsblog.orgWhy US Roads Are Full of SUVs and Trucks, Part II — Streetsblog USAYesterday, we looked at how SUVs and pick-ups captured the new car market. Today, let's talk about how they captured the used car market as well.

no, it was not a 'polling organization' !

A national polling organization revealed on Tuesday that the vast majority of its data had been fabricated, saying it was an "experimental project to demonstrate the vulnerabilities" of the modern political polling industry. https://to.pbs.org/4k8qT4q

It's crazy how often you hear about "bikes on the sidewalk" when this is the actual reality in NYC

Some corporate Democrats and pundits think the party has gone too far "left" and needs to readjust towards the “center.” Rubbish. Where’s the center between democracy and oligarchy, and why would Democrats want to be there?

1/ It's wild that we're already halfway through October!🍂 I'm back with your weekly infectious disease roundup. The TLDR: Flu is sweeping across the West, the summer Covid wave is still lingering, and ticks are making their fall comeback. Here’s what I’m watching 👇

i am not some wild radical, i am the most boring mainstream parent you could possibly meet that spends most of my life driving my kids to hockey practise - we've fucked up our streets so bad and the narrative so bad that wanting BASIC SAFETY FOR CHILDREN is considered fucking radical.

Here is what Ford wants to rip out. In a city stuck in debilitating gridlock, nothing better than removing bike lanes and getting more people driving. 🙌🙌

Keeping bike lanes clean keeps them safe. Debris from cars and landscaping quickly accumulates, creating hazards for riders. If your city isn't sweeping protected lanes as part of standard street maintenance, it is time to demand it.

Evanston's bike infrastructure has always seemed haphazard to me, almost as if isolated chunks of bike lanes were only built if they could piggyback on some street repair/renovation project which received federal or state funding. That is, it pretty much seems like an afterthought to me.

Evanston Transit Alliance@evanstontransit.bsky.social

Evanston's official bike map looks like a connected network, but most "routes" are just small green signs. ETA mapped the real story: disconnected, disjointed, few protected lanes or traffic calming. Many neighborhoods have nothing. We need a citywide network to achieve our safety and climate goals.

It took most of the winter but my small metal lathe is now entirely foot powered; as were many small shop machine tools up till the 1920’s. The large pulley came from a washing machine. I cast the small pulleys and bearing housings from scrap Al/Zn/Cu.

Hey #BikeChi! Does anyone know of any place/person that would loan/rent a pedicab or other adaptive bike? One of our Bridgeport Kidical Mass families would like to bring grandma on our Halloween bike ride but she has lost coordination b/c of an illness and would need to ride as a passenger.

It's a great book. The only reason I can see to prevent it from being added to state DOTs' libraries is they fear it will show their operating principles are nothing but a house of cards.

In honor of #BannedBooksWeek, I'm happy to report that many state DOTs have refused to add my book to their own libraries (and happier to report that many of the same state DOTs have held secret book clubs with my book)

Tax billionaire wealth. I frankly don't care if a billionaire can make a second billion. I'd rather have the average person be able to make their first $100k.

Shout out to my dad! 45 years ago he started tracking mileage of bike rides, and this evening he passed the 100,000 mile mark! It began with using paper maps to calculate distances. Then came simple bike computers. Finally, GPS. Nice job, dad!

2. Do the authors of decisions consider potential long-term ramifications of their decisions? Most obvious to me is Kennedy's Citizens United decision. He's stood by that over the years, despite the fact that it's been the basis for massive corruption of our politics by the billionaire class.

3. Many prosecutors (DOJ) and agents (FBI) have left or been fired. Once we get a sane administration back in DC, will a non-trivial fraction of them rejoin their previous organizations? It seems that the fastest way to return to something like normal would be to rehire some of the people they lost.

1. Does SCOTUS keep an eye on big cases as they work through the lower courts? This might be especially important in the shadow docket world in which we live.

“What’s being sought are damages that would be crippling,” said former Attorney General Bill Barr, .... “It’s imperative these cases be put to rest and this whole approach be put to rest.” Note he didn't say Big Oil wasn't culpable. www.politico.com/news/2026/10...

What exactly does "monitoring" mean in the context of this administration? I have an image of a clown car where the clowns hop out at stop lights to check the car's tire pressure.
