y’all think we gon be without power for 90 days to 18 months like social media is portending? bc if so, i am very ill-prepared for that.

what’s your favorite part of stevie wonder’s “as?” i have 3. 1. the way he sings “pain” on “know through all you joy and pain.” 2. the background vocals under the lines that begin “as today i know i’m living but tomorrow…” 3. the vocal body roll on “alway-yayee-yay-yayee-yayayayay… always.” 🤌🏾

for me, with both films (wicker and ymymym), the narrative “messages” weren’t presented in ways that fully landed for me.

nothing hits the same for everyone. I do dislike being in a small minority of people for whom a hit doesn’t hit.

onto the next.

i’m trying to fit two films in this weekend. will report back.

just realized I never came back with an opinion of “your mother your mother your mother.” this was another mixed bag for me and I’m starting to wonder if i’ve gotten too unhip to understand 2020s era cinema or something.

I’ll say about this what I said about wicker: this was visually lovely, grounded, beautiful performances. i liked that it was almost genre-defying and felt as much domestic drama as it did action. but something abt the overall effect didn’t work here, either.

let’s go.

i hate to say it but I thought this was just okay? there were some lovely things about it, visually, and Olivia Colman is among the best our artistic community has to offer always. but… something about this didn’t really work for me. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Saw an old guy with the craziest drip today

“got a bag and fixed my teeth” is one of the realest lines in all of hip-hop. like, as someone who’d definitely fix my teeth if i ever got a bag… ? 🤌🏾

i need to see both "your mother your mother your mother" and "wicker" this week. it's imperative. i'm regrettably late on the former and want to be early on the latter.

idk. as a non-football-enthusiast, i feel both sad and relieved for jalen hurts. i hope all of his next steps are... good for his long-term health.

i'm not *entirely* sure we give keri russell enough credit as an actress. and that's with the award nominations and wins. she was good young and she's even better older.

now, I’m rewatching “knight and day.” and lemme just say: when just keep tom cruise inside the context of the celluloid, he is a perfect movie star.

he is such a ki in this movie, too. it would not work without him.

I’m rewatching “the intern.” robert deniro is so great in this. it’s probably my favorite of his “golden years” roles.

deliver me from interactions with frustrating men.

… i actually could’ve put the period after interactions. Iike…

i just received an invite to virtually attend a media town hall. i saw the thumbnail of the flyer before i read the text of the email and *immediately* knew, based on the "i saw things/i imagined" who the target demo for this event is.

heard this in a bookstore last friday and it's been in steady rotation since. i literally cannot listen to this song without singing along. loudly. youtu.be/7xGxQXmu7Os?...

all right, y'all. i'm going into "animals," *very* clearly biased in favor of ben affleck. idk why i dig that man, but i do. he's a solid director, if a bit... unsurprising... as an actor.

she had more chemistry beefing with steven yeun in one scene than she had with Ben the whole film, sad to say.

the score is so lazy. 😩

Ben said yall gon get this fluent Spanish. 😩

if you wanna know the truth about it, in a just world, steven yeun would be playing Ben’s role bc he’s kind of out acting both the leads. and he has a pretty understated role.

oh, no. this has bad reviews. and it's another "high & low" remake?? sigh. might have to drop out early. lol

it's bad. lol. but i'ma probably stick beside it. at least for another 10, 20 minutes.

i will say: i hate the streamification of cinema. little feels like an event anymore.

i think kerry washington *might've* had her teeth redone?

... i used to have lore, a little bit. or just, you know. youth. lol

i used to wear this whole album on the mile-long walk to campus my first year in the basement apartment in yonkers where my "room" was just an alcove with no door. thus began my lifelong obsession with (most) things sufjan.

there are a select number of songs that immediately transport me back to grad school at sarah lawrence in the mid-aughts. this is one. this used to be my roommate's jam and then it became mine. www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJvu...

i saw them in concert with her at one of those divey standing room only venues in manhattan or brooklyn that smell like weed and the unwashed. y'all know the vibes. i wound up chillin' on the perimeter of the building with security, some of the only Black folks in the room.

reminds me of this photo i took last weekend when i was back home.

you really had to be there. what a time. when hezekiah transitioned from colorblock choir robes to dressing like gospel's bad boy records ceo on the album covers? peak! youtu.be/Rfi64Idrp88?...

... and who remembers when john p. kee and hezekiah did a verzuz during covid and john p. kee thought he had a shot at "winning?" hezekiah didn't even have to play all his hits...

i had to book a flight-for-two for feb. '27 and i was shopping different airports bc they all seemed... high. went to southwest, against my better judgment. do you know them folks wanted a band for me & my child to fly from nc to mi??? like $1K, USD *seat selection and bags not included, of course*

i wound up finding basic economy tix for $400 less than than that. but! i'll eventually have to pay like $200 closer to takeoff for: 1. seat selection on four flights (this is a 1-stop connection situation, 2 flights per leg of trip) 2. checked bags

... still cheaper than a band, tho!

I decided to try listening to a new narrative podcast this morning and the narrator is talking to me in second person. TIL I reeeeally don’t like that in a podcast. 🥴

i've been streaming this series with my nana in the room. at first she wasn't interested, bc she finds shows difficult to follow these days, but now she's very much locked in. lol

aw. i'm 3 episodes deep into "a different world" and i love it. it really is meant to pass the torch to these young people. it's an ADW for a streaming generation. i can see it making HBCUs look as attractive to Gen Z/Alpha as the original did for Gen X.

every time i see darryl bell in this, i'm impressed. this is the most dramatic acting i've seen him do. he was rarely the straight man on the original ADW.
