We woke up to two apps in the iPhone Duo collection in the US ❤️ Make Duo your notebook with penbook and a daily planner with Finalist. Now I just need to find myself a Duo... 😅

Finalist 4.2.3 just went live with even more iPhone Duo yumminess #digitalplanner

If you happen to receive iPhone Duo today, Finalist 4.2.2 is already in the App Store and ready for your calendars and reminders in every pose

In today's Installer, David Pierce on Finalist 4: "This app has slowly but surely turned into one of the most robust and clever planner / to-do apps out there." 🤩

As I tend to do, I've let Finalist 4.0 get well overcooked before release (but you don't want your apps medium-rare anyway). After many months of beta testing, 4.0 finally lands on August 11. It's a fine update, the biggest I've had in 3 years.

Finalist can now ingest markdown vaults and show your Obsidian tasks right on your daily timelines, and even create per-tag or per-project swimlanes. Apart from Notes, Finalist gets a new Apple Watch app and hundreds of other changes driven by our massive Discord community.

I woke up to Finalist featured on the App Store in 81 countries (makes great coffee taste even better), right as I'm heads-down finishing 4.0. The beta is on TestFlight now: a new Apple Watch app, plus AI planning built on Apple's on-device models. More soon...

Just in time for iOS 27 beta 3: I've posted the first Finalist 4.0 beta, and it makes Finalist one of the first apps built on Apple's newest AI stack, including Private Cloud Compute. What that means in practice:

Capture feature now uses Foundation Models' new multimodal image input, blended with the classic system OCR. Point it at a screenshot or photo and a concert on a poster gets added to your calendar, and emails, phone numbers, and websites land in the right fields.

Building against three moving betas at once (iOS, watchOS, Xcode) is its own adventure, but this is the most fun I've had with Apple's frameworks in years.

Just in time for iOS 27 beta 3: I've posted the first Finalist 4.0 beta, and it makes Finalist one of the first apps built on Apple's newest AI stack, including Private Cloud Compute. What that means in practice:

Plan My Day gathers your tasks, events, reminders, and habits, checks the day's actual free time and the weather, and drafts a schedule using Apple's Foundation Models. On devices that support it, planning runs on Private Cloud Compute, Apple's new cloud tier with on-device-level privacy.

The proposal lands directly on the timeline as penciled-in blocks: apply it, adjust it, or clear it and your day is back exactly as it was. No third-party AI, nothing leaves Apple's stack.

I was annoyed how some panoramas looked impressive as custom Environments while others looked shrunk so after some experiments I figured it out: it depends on the lens you used to take the photo. #visionOS #VisionPro

Making an interactive widget was pretty involved 😅

The widget in the latest beta has a special new power: you can now browse through your week without opening the app. Picks up your Reminders, Calendar events and any tasks and habits you setup in Finalist.

Next, iOS 26...!

Finalist 3 is out after nine months of coding 😅 It's a daily planner that manages your calendars and reminders better than your Reminders app. I'm running a crazy launch special: get a lifetime license for $5 (five!) dollars

I've been having a lot of fun with these new on-device models in iOS 26

There's more to iOS 26 than Liquid Glass: here are some on-device processing experiments, feels like a game changer for getting things done

The unexpected twist was that the glass part of it was the least interesting. I implemented the TabView as HIG describes it, which changed a lot of my UX for the better. Glass was just the cherry on top.

Beat matching on Music app between songs is neat, I hear a high pass filter as well. That would have been a fun project to code

I think Apple wants our apps to start using the system app for Settings again, which is not that discoverable on iPhone
