I admit I kind of sit in two spots about this. I am absolutely the kind of mark who would be incredibly excited for a new Breath of Fire, or even just an official set of re-translations & re-releases of 1+2, but if we gotta have just the 5 games we got? I can also be OK with that. >>

Kayin@kayin.moe

but god, LET IPS DIE. Even if the Devs are still around and supportive, don't you want to see the OTHER COOL SHIT they might come up with???

(yes, I am in fact a Dragon Quarter defender even though I haven't played that game. People have Opinions about it but it's not a bad game, people are just mean.) If other people gotta pick up the torch with spiritual successors and the like then so be it. It's worked for Xenoblade, ain't it? (2/2)

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

I want my foreign friends to understand the magnitude of this popular mobilization against fascism. 90-year-olds in wheelchairs, isolated Indigenous communities walking miles, and poor neighborhoods fighting for hours after far-right mayors halted buses to suppress votes. And we won.

Fernando Salvaterra@salvaterra.bsky.social

We won not only against Bolsonaro, but against the full force of the USian's Big Techs, Meta, CIA, Trump, the Brazilian right-wing elites, the billionaires' press and more.

My deepest condolences to everyone caught in the Bioware closures and layoffs. Y'all truly, truly deserved better. Always did. I'm sorry that you weren't treated with the respect you deserve, and I'm thankful for what you were able to accomplish. Man, this sucks hard.

A little less respectfully: EA can go to hell, and so can the assholes puppeteering them. Ruining so many good things about games under the guise of new growth and investment in the industry. My ass. (2/2)

petty vent, but if i hear someone say sf6 music sucks or only got better with the dlc one more time, i might flip my shit. i get it. it's not the classic stuff. even past that, some of it may not hit for you the same way, and i get it. but we can stop the cap. the ost is literally Fine. >>

3 years of this slander is so exhausting. Not even just because people dislike SF6's OST, but because I'm so tired of people not having the ability to simply say "I don't like this" without also going "because it's shit" when literally we should only be reserving that for You Know What. >>

part of me is almost entirely certain people said this shit about sf3's music too when it first came around (i'd be too young to be able to verify it) and the fact that time might be a circle in this scenario is giving me premature greys lmao. it's ok to just leave it at "i didn't like it" (4/4)

you can just say "i don't like the music really" instead of saying "the music sucks". hell, even though i mixed classic themes into my music selection for each character i didn't turn off their sf6 themes entirely. if you do, no shame to you. i don't need people to love sf6's music but GOD. >>

When Grammy-winning musician Rhiannon Giddens begins playing “Old Corn Liquor,” a traditional Black American folk tune, acclaimed Chinese pipa virtuoso Wu Man recognizes similarities to Chinese pentatonic music and spontaneously joins in. The joy on their faces says it all.

Yep. Entirely unsurprised. Y'all know I get on my horse about it, but this article shows exactly why. And no, there is no "one place" where it's fine for x purpose but not for y purpose. You cannot trust this technology to do any of the crap AI boosters says it does, and you never should. >>

Employers worldwide are pulling back on AI as they navigate a flood of errors and low-quality work that sap employee time, raise privacy and security risks, and drive up costs

Programming? It's a wash. Data processing? A wash. Art? A wash. There is no field where it's useful in the forms that it's being commonly pushed. Not a one. Don't believe the hype and don't surrender your capacity for critical thought. (2/2)

Asking two questions for my web novel crowd: do y'all have any self-hosting + framework suggestions for where I can put up multi-chapter work and do you have any recommended support/patronage models to use? Kinda hit a breaking point mentally today and I want to stop procrastinating on a thing. >>

In short: having someone fuck with your money when you have no leeway and the job search has been fucking you over drives people to start getting Inventive and I'm at that line rn. (2/2)

i am thinking again about Asbel's level 2 super in Tales of Graces, which to this day is still the sickest jrpg super animation i've ever seen. and it's so SNAPPY, too, you are in and they're dead and you're back to normal gameplay in just six seconds!! just endlessly impressive work

Honestly refreshing to see a recomp clearly stating this. Go check it out, tbh

Gallowpedia@medievil.wiki

The first beta release of the MediEvil Recomp project is out now! This lets you play MediEvil with widescreen support, scaling aspect ratio, increased draw distance/render distance, increase FPS support, PGXP, Better Terrain, Frame Interpolation, and other things all natively running on your PC.

Been keeping my head down trying to keep things together, but if nothing else I'm gonna treat myself on this, my 35th birthday, to a nice Auntie Anne's pretzel and some pure vibes. No real work, no serious stress about anything, just leaning. Hope y'all are good. o7

Suffice it to say that recent events in my personal life have caused me to think about everything Orion says in this thread. If you're white and you follow me, read it. The whole thing. And don't stew in guilt about it or anything; just reflect and move different. That's all I'm asking.

ODB@obitron.blacksky.app

a lot of white queers don't understand what whiteness is, and that makes much of their interactions with queer folk of color suck, so I'll explain a little. The two facets of whiteness that are most important in this context are that it is a social and legal exemption from racial oppression.

Carter's Quest is legit one of the greatest accomplishments to come out of the solo-dev scene and the fact that something so spectacular, as game, as narrative, as experience, might never be completed because of lack of attention is an indictment on the way we talk about and engage with indie games.

goba (ACT 2 out NOW!)@gobadev.bsky.social

Posted about it on Twitter, but I figured I should talk about it here, too. CQ Act 2 is underperforming to a really disappointing degree. I'm considering my options moving forward, but it's looking very grim for my ability to continue working on games going forward.

Jamaican Patwa and Japanese, though neither exceptionally fluently. Patwa is a lot easier when I'm not thinking about it too hard; my Japanese has fallen off a lot, but I still have the basics floating around in my brain (my keigo is unfortunately super scuffed).

I really do not care how much of an expert programmer you are. If you are actively feeding any of your code into Claude or whatever, you're self-sabotaging, because either you'll have to wind up fixing it later or you're doing the review you'd be doing with human code anyway. >>

I understand being tired of writing boilerplate or what have you, but especially in a field where the understanding of *how* a thing is put together is so important, you cannot afford not to understand and record the mechanisms of how the thing works. It is literally too expensive. Don't. (end)

Like, no matter what you are hypothetically using this shitass technology for, the thing I want to impress on you is that in addition to literally ALL of the other issues with this tech is very simply that *you are not building the skills to make something that lasts*. >>

All it takes is for you to get garbage out with *one* thing from Claude, & you are immediately more likely to cause a cascading failure of shit that you then have no clue how to clean up because *you* aren't the one who wrote that code. You have surrendered your ability to make decisions. >>

I've said this before but I'm not looking at something like Intellisense on the same level as using Claude Code or whatever. Having something that is suggesting autocompletes from the libraries you have access to is not trying to write entire functions for you from scratch. >>

The thing that also gets on my nerves about this is how people are rushing whole game recompilations through Claudeslop and getting defensive about it when, very simply: you are building on sand. You are demonstrating that you do not have the discipline to maintain what you're "building". >>

3 and 1 are tied, though I admit I'd probably give the edge to 3 because having someone who knows the local community and would likely help me get to know the local community is a big one for me personally. 1 trends closer to my interests but I also realize that they might not balance out. >>

Lifetime Learner ✨@azarsuibian.bsky.social

Okay. Which person would you choose? (There’s no right answer.) Let’s say you have three people begging you to be with them. (Per the usual 🙂‍↕️) They’re all saying things like, “Baaaeeeeeee, cuff me, PLEASE! 😩🫦” You’ve know them all for about 6 months platonically, and they all are equally foiine.

"Balance out" here meaning that I'm also a homebody (which is part of why I wouldn't mesh well with 2; I don't entirely *mind* traveling but a lot of it back-to-back is really uncomfortable for me) and I admit I'd worry about feeding that with someone who also is a homebody. >>

But someone who knows the local community, knows how to get active in it without getting too lost in the sauce? Even if I'd get a little anxious at first or they get a little preachy sometimes (I'm guilty of this too) I think I could trust someone like that to help me navigate the worst of it. (3/3)
