I'm worried that the scale of these proposed closures will be another huge headwind for our economic recovery as families choose to leave for the suburbs, which will make the ed funding problem even worse. Families want to be part of the solution and recognize we need help from Salem.

I get they're inextricably intertwined but I kind of feel like leaning so much into how he was the longtime best buddy of the world's most notorious sex criminal has given it something of the feel of a political gotcha rather than the important part, which is that the president raped people.

mNRA Should be getting the money and attention AI is getting. But it doesn’t because it won’t make Silicon Valley VC’s obscenely wealthy

Musk’s wealth is a threat to democracy—not just in the U.S. but everywhere. He’s probably the greatest threat to the free world today.

I think this is an important lesson for Portland. Reducing permit costs is a win for developers. But reducing permitting times is a win for everybody. I don’t want us to reduce our standards, but I think we can get the work done faster. Without taking a hit to city finances.

California YIMBY@cayimby.bsky.social

A new paper on 60 cities finds that 30% to 43% of the gap in completion times between the slowest and fastest cities comes from permit waits, not construction. Longer projects also mean more interest paid, which raises costs. www.theargumentmag.com/p/how-to-kil...

May Megan’s memory be a blessing. But most importantly, may her sacrifice radicalize you.

I want ONE prominent policymaker to say "here are what we are going to at least TRY to do right now to make sure this never happens again." Hearing "oh, we can't talk about that so close to November!" is deeply fucking unsettling.

for as long as i've been alive, republicans have ran the same playbook: a few weeks before voting begins, they roll out completely fabricated smear campaigns. these things are always coordinated, so the talking points take over the news. the party is never electorally punished for their dishonesty.

The administration that continues to cover up for pedophiles simply cannot be trusted with the care of hundreds of unaccompanied children with no oversight and no transparency

Nancy Levine Stearns@nancylevinestearns.bsky.social

🚨NEW by me: New ICE facility for unaccompanied migrant kids is about to open in Louisiana. While ICE is sanitizing optics, calling it the "Alexandria Family Staging Center," lawmakers and child advocates are raising the roof warning of child trafficking risks. www.thequeenzone.com/new-ice-faci...

You guys, please stop saying that ICE is only 23 years old. Before there was ICE there was INS which the Patriot Act renamed ICE. We’ve seen these kinds of aggressive actions before. In the 80s. Under Reagan. I point it out only bc this is who the GOP is. Not just Trump. The whole party.

The proposals that materially help small businesses while holding mega corporations accountable are from the democratic socialists. Please look past the Red Scare propaganda to assess who is doing material work for the community. Someone schmoozing you is not the same as someone serving you.

The horrific failed and botched execution attempt in Tennessee last night lays bare the cruelty of the death penalty. Christa Pike's attorneys challenged the state's ability to safely execute her, to no avail. She remains hospitalized. We must end the death penalty. #christapike #deathpenalty

A tale of two sales: Dundon buys the Trailblazers and immediately starts dismantling the team and antagonizing the city. Kwanza and Jośe buy the Padres and immediately start talking about how they’re going to bring San Diego a title.

The donation swapping was a mess, I did not participate. The only Councilor who did who is currently on Council is conservative Eric Zimmerman. The Oregonian wrote a whole article about it, didn’t put his name in the headline, and hid it behind a paywall But that means she reviewed it for everyone!

The dunking IS fun, but one of the things that has made people interested in DSA candidates in the last few elections is a relentless focus on issues that improve every day quality of life. And I hope that people the right people don’t lose sight of that. Change cannot be brought by dunking alone

By moving to the “center,” Democrats have failed to fight the forces that led us to Donald Trump: widening inequality, economic insecurity, and the unchecked political power of corporations and the rich. Political centrism is nonsense. There is no middle ground between democracy and oligarchy.

ALL OF THIS. Reporters need to understand when they are being used as tools of a monied agenda and how sometimes setting up “objective” standards on what constitutes a story without a thorough power analysis does not result in fair or balanced reporting. CC: @shanedkavanaugh.bsky.social
