occasionally a student asks how some canonical book can possibly apply to their own life and moving forward i’ll refer them to the moment in Ulysses where bloom wants to leave a restaurant without eating there so he pretends to look around and realize he’s in the wrong place instead of just leaving

I’m trying to be more impulsive about my book choices, and not feeling like I’m just finishing obligations that seemed like a good idea years ago. Naturally this led to me starting four translations of the Tao Te Ching side-by-side

I really loved the band too, his grandson’s band had a great jammy sensibility, and this convinced me every band in the world needs a dedicated vibraphone player

definitely a thing in music too, the youths are learning about the quarter-century old Pitchfork reviews to get mad at like it means anything about anyone now

one of the more embarrassing strangely common video game fandom behaviours is holding onto resentment over specific IGN reviews decades later. you are 29 years old bro you gotta led the sonic unleashed review go

I really don't get the repeated folk wisdom that losing headphone jacks is the reason people play videos out loud in public now. Would someone who already doesn't care about strangers take the time to untangle this on every train ride?

I’ll concede not getting to charge and use earbuds is an issue (a solvable one), but all the woe over making your existing AUX cable 3in longer with a perfect DAC for $9 (or just buying cheap gas station USB-C earbuds) is so persistent for how little it actually changes

I missed that John Crowley died earlier this month. Incredible writer, I knew in the opening chapters of Little Big that it would be a high I’d chase for forever. One of the best at having “I never knew anyone else had that thought” moments on every other page

can’t believe The Odyssey has Odysseus sobbing as a Phaeacian bard recounts the most glorious moments of the Trojan War, what kind of forced Judeo-Christian guilt is this. Also I heard they made a movie of this, I wonder how that is

after sitting through the Sex Purge trailer for the nth time, I’m now wondering if this wasn’t just a weird solution for how to do encroaching-prom-night tropes for adults

there's always something new to appreciate in the list of the pre-defined genres in ID3v1 (1996). my current favorite is how it has "Christian rap" but no "Christian" or "CCM"

what are all your most upsetting songs to find out were rerelease bonus tracks? Buggles - The Age of Plastic not having Technopop is probably my mountain here. unthinkable

The Pretty Things' S.F. Sorrow not ending on Walking Through My Dreams is tragic. Half of late 60s UK rock could work here, I never understood the market reasons to not put singles on the album. (The UK LP of Procol Harum's debut not having Whiter Shade of Pale... c'mon)
