The pathway to a #PhDLife might include a Master's degree. But, it might not. Whichever you follow, there are costs and benefits. And your context really matters. Learn more about our study: www.sciedupress.com/journal/inde... #HigherEd #PhD #AcademicLife #AcademicChatter

White man wonders about why white prizes and aren't awarded to.... oh no, that's not it White man spews racism to justify violence.

Truly amazed by the passion of Lula supporters. I really hope that things go well on Sunday. We need this ❤️

Had fun colouring in this #LaurierBiology seminar poster! #SciArt

This is some serious bullshit! I read several of these banned books to my 1st graders as an introduction to a lesson. Let the teachers, who have received degrees in education, do their job. #SheShed #BannedBookWeek

I’m reading it now. It’s very immersive, with a startling idea or image every couple of pages. I kind of don’t want it to end.

#HigherEd Admin: we're growing enrolment by 6000 students. Collegial governance: reads about it in the news. news.ontario.ca/en/release/1...

Could also be a nascent administrator’s cover letter. 🤔

If you argue passionately for neutrality now, you’ll be forced to argue passionately for the wrong side when it’s too late #HigherEd

Stop calling them boys

It’s #DougTheDog enjoying his frisbee!

And stop calling the Epstein survivors "young women," too! Some of them are young women now, but they were girls then!

Stop calling them boys

It was such a pleasure to be part of this project. You can ready story, “Foliaceous” at the link.

YAY - the book is out!!!

I teach 400 1st-yr #HigherEd students Community at this scale doesn’t just happen: it needs resourcing Next year, I lose access to the tools I use to do this, unless I pay for them myself So these small acts of community building may be some of my last I present: collaborative drawing.

The Memorial Cloth is a 60-metre commemoration the honours the names of thousands of children that died as a result of residential schools in Canada. It is displayed each year as part of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation event on Parliament Hill.

It’s med school reference letter season 🍎 Observation: #HigherEd students struggle to find referees because classes are too large to build meaningful relationships with their instructors Hypothesis: Over-enrolling students without hiring faculty reduces access to mentorship and opportunity

Day 27 of #SciArtSeptember is quill so I made a little porcupine #linocut on delicate 8” by 8” Japanese paper. This is one of a variable edition. This is a North American or Canadian porcupine (Erethizon dorsatum). minouette.etsy.com/listing/4581... #printmaking #porcupine #washi

#HigherEd will fail in the context of AI unless we dismantle the grades economy #TheCurrentCBC

🧪 Preparing students to work on a project on the #DairyBush this fall (a natural woodlot on the #Guelph campus) and want introduce them (& you) to this sugar maple that is estimated to have germinated in 1785. This 241 year old 🍁 (older than 🇨🇦 , than lithography, than …) is part of your campus.

In honour of #BatmanDay here’s a poster I made for a #LaurierBiology seminar back in 2016! (And the #BrightKnight colourized version by my son)! #SciArt

Twenty-five years ago was the last time I can remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when something happened.

#HigherEd first class report: 1) Technologically disastrous due to expanded diversity of proprietary hard and software 2) My students are lovely humans with great energy 🍏🍎

Dear #HigherEd leadership, Today is not the day to introduce an AI-use policy effective for Fall 2026. Sincerely, #HigherEdIsOverworked 🍎

New #HigherEd “guidelines” just dropped in my inbox for this semester Classes start in two days. My course has 400 students. #LabourDay #HigherEdIsOverworked 🍎🍏

Dear #HigherEd, Anyone else working today on tasks that are actually in your job description, because most of the time during the workweek, you do so many things that aren't actually your job? #HigherEdIsOverworked 🧪✏️

Dear #HigherEd instructors, Opening your course website before classes start is a great way to help students prepare If you use CourseLink, overriding the default access date is as simple as a quick email I opened mine on Sept 3, and so far, 247 out of 400 students in my course have logged in 🍎

🧪 Arthropod spp. are hidden in leaf-litter plant tissue & we needed a way to see them. Conclusion? DNA metabarcoding works & differences are significant! Congrats @anibalhcastillo.bsky.social, @shoshanahjacobs.ca, @dirch3.bsky.social! Watch Anibal's feed for more! doi.org/10.1371/jour... 🥬🧬🐜

The #ManufacturedEcosystems team agrees with @theguardian.com that the Leaf Sheep is pretty darn amazing. Check out Yulia Shtern's stunning work using upcycled materials and no extra pigment, so we can appreciate just how magical this tiny soul really is. www.theguardian.com/environment/...
