Psychiatrist: Don’t go see your mother without taking someone with you. I can think of many people to ask, and not a single one of them would say no. All of them would take psychic damage from going. A catch-22.

I thought Moira Rose’s soap opera in Schitt’s Creek was named “Widow’s Bay”, so I have been so confused with this new show that I haven’t seen and didn’t look like a spin-off of Schitt’s Creek. (The soap opera was named “Sunrise Bay”, but it might have been funnier if it was “Widow’s Bay.)

I am doing my laundry and putting it away. I am CRUSHING IT. I am adulting so good. I am also removing and donating a lot of clothes that I avoid wearing because they fit me badly or are damaged. They’re my fall back for when I haven’t done my laundry, making everything worse.

My Mom having dementia and being powerless to help her (long story that boils down to “she doesn’t want anyone’s help”) has led to talking a lot more about her, with strangers, and admitting that I intentionally haven’t told people everything about my life. I didn’t want to upset anyone.

When I was preparing to get married, my Mom asked me to invite her to the wedding ceremony but not the reception. That’s what I did. She got her invite, lost her shit, and told her side of the family (two people) about this shameful insult, so they both dropped out of the wedding.

When my husband and I got engaged, I told my Mom. This was her complete reaction, with no follow ups. You can search my life for additional reactions from her, like someone searching a couch for spare change, and would come up empty. This was it.

This is an example of a dementia confabulation, where Mom’s memory has a gap and her brain made up a story to fill the gap. This family member died in April 1977. I was born in 1979. My Mom had only one child, me. (1/2)

My Mom sent me this in 2021, I fact checked it, and I DIDN’T SAY ANYTHING. There was no point. It wasn’t that my Mom was a consistent liar, it was that I was done-done with helping her or trying to keep her grounded on reality. She never liked reality, ever. (2/2)

My Uncle wouldn’t let my Mom inside his apartment, so she called the City and told them he was living in a hoard that was dangerous. They verified that she hadn’t seen the hoard, so they chose to do a bedbug inspection of his apartment building to see if he was in a hoard. (He wasn’t.) 1/2

When I had my son, I didn’t tell my Mom I was pregnant and I didn’t let her see my son, because there was a chance she would call CPS on me. I kept his living areas and he himself pristine, in case she called CPS anyway. She never did, but I was ready. (2/2)

Sent my Mom the first email in 2 years, but this time it said “I am unblocking your email address, you can email me back and I will read it. I know you have memory issues, and I want you to know that I visited you on X date for X amount of time and this is what we talked about.”

🇨🇦 problems: too polite to tell the guy with big headphones on that his phone hasn’t connected, so we keep hearing snippets of things he’s looking at. If I do flag it to him, I will also apologize for telling him.

CARNEY: "I do not get up first thing in the morning and think about the United States. I think about Canadians ... Our destiny is first and foremost going to be determined by what we do here. Canadians get that. I'm not sure everyone south of the border understands that."

Sweetpea seeds are soaking. Butterfly weed seeds ready to go. In 12 hours, I’m planting. This year, a single row of sweetpeas with underplanting. Also: I know where the mouse or rabbit digs its tunnel through the flower bed, and I give up. No seeds there.

Husband: I love you for so many reasons. Me: Name a weird one. He gazes at me with almost visible rose-coloured glasses: You snort-snore in your sleep, edge up to me looking for snuggles, then shove me away saying I’m too close, and I end up sleeping on the edge of the king-size bed. Me: 🤯🫢🫥🫣

🚨 Season 2 of D20: On a Bus begins RIGHT NOW! 🚨 🚌 Starring Dragon Master Katie Marovitch and her people: Jasmine Bhullar, Aabria Iyengar, Matthew Mercer, and Brennan Lee Mulligan! #Dimension20

Child requires general anesthesia at 12:45pm tomorrow, which means 8 hours of fasting. He’s 8.5 years old. I’m getting up at 3am to feed him a high fat breakfast in the hopes that the blood sugars will last til 12:45. This is Jackass. *theme music*

Update, 3:43am. The child was angry to be woken up, ate as little as possible, and repeatedly tucked himself back in to sleep. He has never known hunger, so he wasn’t motivated to prevent hunger later. Godspeed, child.

Estranged Parent Problems: significant birthdays Me, to florist: I am sending a bouquet of flowers to this person. Florist: who is this person in relation to you. Me: Estranged parent. They may decline the delivery, but they aren’t violent, they won’t throw the flowers at the delivery person. 1/2

Should I send flowers? No, we’re no contact. They’re mean to me, and they’re turning 80. So I’m sending flowers because they brought me into this world, and FML this is stupid. Florist’s delivery person is instructed to accept the flowers back if they’re refused, and I’ll pick them.

The proliferation of this quote is so interesting to me. It's often posted by right wing chuds who use it to defend conventional aesthetic ideas — such as the importance of having a lean, athletic body — but they don't really understand Owens's work. Let's talk about it. 🧵

Absolutely true.

Trans people warned 15 years ago; when they come for our rights they will also come for; - abortion - equal marriage, - immigrants & refugees , - voter rights, - free speech & academics, - divorce, - protest rights - contraception… You all (y’all for my US friends…?) need to listen to us more.

I hate everyone and I refuse to identify what I had for lunch, because we all know I didn’t eat my lunch and that’s why I’m cranky. And I ain’t having it! I am allowed to hate everyone. I am right about that, that’s a right way to feel. #hangry

The slog is slightly less SLOG, but that could change. Tonight we’re going to see the 150ft tall snow mountain and the sandwiches. . Fun times, pretty much. Could be more fun, but I’ll take what I can get.
