If we do not ensure they can compete on the world stage. And don’t try to pass with high school language classes. I was a world language teacher and a school administrator. Unless students begin in elementary school, they are unlikely to pass proficiency exams.

If they speak another language at home, let them become literate in that language plus take another. Well-rounded curriculae that also include maths, sciences, the arts, physical and vocational education are necessary.
