The Budapest Memorandum was signed in 1994 giving security assurances to Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and borders in exchange for surrendering 1,900 nuclear warheads to Russia for dismantling. The U.S. pledged to seek United Nations action if Ukraine became the victim of aggression.

Trump officially supports Russia's invasion of Ukraine, placing the US squarely on the side of Russia vs Europe. Accepts talks about Ukraine with China and Russia, which would exclude Ukraine. "Russia, frankly, has been fine on Ukraine. They haven't been doing much."

When I was an advisor to the Forest Service, we were presented with a study showing that the climate crisis would double the number of acres burned. I urged them to repurpose Smokey. They just laughed it off. This is not quite what I meant, but it works. Forest fires now burn 2x historical acreages.

Tim Snyder: The term that I came up with… is superpower suicide. I just can’t see an example of a major country losing so much power so quickly as the United States under Trump. We’ve encouraged our enemies and we’ve made our allies not trust us.
