“Pain or damage don’t end the world. Or despair, or fucking beatings. The world ends when you’re dead. Until then, you’ve got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.” -- Al Swearengen, Deadwood

Unexpected good news.

For the FIRST TIME EVER, renewables provided more electricity than natural gas in the U.S. for the entire month of March 👏🏼 👏🏼 In spite of relentless attacks and setbacks, clean energy is showing up and doing its thing. Imagine if we scaled it instead of derailing it.

Depressing how nothing ever changes.

53 years ago today, the last U.S. combat troops left South Vietnam, ending America’s direct role in the Vietnam War. I remember seeing this anti-war PSA back then. Its message is sadly still very relevant today as Trump drags us into another unpopular war.

Senate Democrats voted multiple times to fund TSA separately from ICE. Republicans voted it down every time. Republicans are to blame for today’s airport chaos — all because they’re happy to keep letting Trump’s thugs terrorize our communities with no consequences. Remember this.

This evening I struggled to recall if Ralph Steadman is still with us and whether he'd done anything on Trump. Yes (at what hope is a healthy 89), and sure enough. (In case anyone wonders, I have nothing to do with this sales site.)

According to the New Yorker, Donald Trump and his family profited off the presidency by an estimated $4 billion in 2025 — mostly through shady crypto deals. That amounts to $456,621 per hour. But how are you doing?

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again. #Pinks #ProudBlue

President Trump’s spiteful defamation suit against the Pulitzer Prize Board may backfire, as the latter is now demanding Trump’s psychological records, prescription medication records, and tax returns in the discovery process. trib.al/LUCScTR

I've always appreciated this man. His dedication to exploring other places and celebrating the people and traditions of the locales he visits is both edifying and admirable. This is another level, but his humanity does not surprise me. He's truly one of the good ones!

It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans. 🧵 1 of 9

Out of curiosity, I ran a few of short paragraphs through a couple of readability checkers. The results were depressing. The "scores" indicated that my sentences were too complex for the average reader to comprehend. The suggestions were to tailor to the best target age, that of a 7th grader.

Amazon announced 14,000 layoffs. Its CEO made over $40M last year. UPS announced 48,000 layoffs. Its CEO made over $24M last year. Intel announced 20,000 layoffs. Its new CEO's pay package is valued at nearly $69M. This is what I mean when I say the system is rigged.

Lowes has its Christmas displays and merch out already. The war on Christmas is getting worse each and every year. Of course, the war is on us rational people who aren’t ready for all this in freaking SEPTEMBER.
