Look at these glorious gates, part of the first permanent 'School Street' in New York City! 🤩 You absolutely LOVE to see sturdy infrastructure demonstrating the city's commitment to safe, sustainable, and joy-filled spaces for kids to play before and after school! www.amny.com/nyc-transit/...

amny.comNYC establishes first permanent ‘School Street’ with new swing gates on block near two Lower Manhattan schools | amNewYorkNew York City officials gathered with advocates outside of a Lower Manhattan school on Tuesday to usher in the Big Apple's first permanent "School Street."

We agree with much of @aarieff.bsky.social's opinion piece in @sfchronicle.com about Market Street's unmet potential. We'd add that improving the active transportation experience for people who ride bikes and scooters is the critical first step to creating places that people want to go, and linger!

sfchronicle.comS.F. has been trying to fix Market Street since 1962. Here’s why nothing has workedOPINION: San Francisco has been trying to fix Market Street since 1962. It’s still a mess. More of us should be asking what’s taking so long.

"The neighborways were supposed to offer a network of slow, calm streets for pedestrians and cyclists. But without a completed network, the sole finished project, on Ortega Street, has failed to make much of a difference." From @junyaoyang.bsky.social on @missionlocal.org

missionlocal.orgS.F. promised to slow cars on eight Sunset streets. Five years later, only one is done.Without a network, it is unclear if one street can make a difference to make streets safer for pedestrians and cyclists.

We're biased, but we can't think of a better way to roll into matrimony than on bikes, surrounded by friends on bikes! We were honored to play a small part in making Deb and Matt's wedding day special. Congratulations, you two!

Thoughtful piece from former Sunset District Supervisor Gordon Mar in the @sfchronicle.com: "There is still room for compromise — not necessarily over whether cars return to the Great Highway, but over how we make Sunset Dunes work better for the entire west side."

Police and news reports have confirmed that a woman riding her standup e-scooter was killed at Market and Powell Streets this morning, by a person driving a commercial vehicle. Our hearts are heavy and our thoughts are with her family, friends, and community as they navigate this sudden grief. 💔

People on bikes, scooters, and on foot are our most vulnerable road users and they deserve safe roadways to ride and walk on. No one should lose their life trying to navigate our streets.

We are still collecting information and confirming details – we’ll update this post and our website with a more comprehensive statement as we learn more.

More people on bikes means less traffic congestion, more seats on Muni, and a greener San Francisco." -Cecilia Vega-Mayer, Director of Community Programs at SFBike

We're most excited for Lyft's commitment to expanding Bike Share For All eligibility to MediCal recipients, making the reduced-rate membership one of the cheapest and most convenient ways to get across town.

"San Francisco deserves a world-class bikeshare system. Expanding eligibility for reduced-cost bikeshare, and more stations and bikes, will empower more people to see bikeshare as easy, reliable, and affordable, and to see biking as a viable mode of daily transportation...

We remain cautiously optimistic that AV's might improve street safety, but need to see companies like Waymo do more to protect people on our streets. We call on the company to program their cars to end their practice of illegally and dangerously stopping in bike lanes.

The California Bicycle Coalition today applauded the Assembly Transportation Committee’s passage of SB 1167, authored by Senator Catherine S. Blakespear and co-sponsored by CalBike, PeopleForBikes, Streets For All, and Streets Are For Everyone.

"This is the largest grassroots signature-gathering effort in the history of the Bay Area, and represents thousands of hours spent by people from all backgrounds and all corners of our five-county region to protect this thing—transit—that matters to millions of Bay Area residents."

Basketball honchos and San Francisco transportation planners have a humble message for anyone heading to the Valkyries’ home opener on Sunday: There is no need to drive.

"The primary problem that we are seeing, both on the streets and in the news, is the confusion between what is an e-bicycle and what is an e-moto.”

Twin peaks is undergoing a transformation! 🪄 The car-free portion of twin peaks Blvd is gaining more park amenities – benches, dedicated spots for skateboarders, bike racks, + more – building on the last ten years of habitat restoration and pedestrianization efforts.

San Francisco Chronicle@sfchronicle.com

The busy footpath that climbs from San Francisco’s Twin Peaks neighborhood to the glorious views of the two hilltops above will close for the rest of the year, as the city completes a multiyear project to turn a former automobile roadway into a pedestrian walkway called the Twin Peaks Promenade.

The eastern side of twin peaks blvd will be closed for the rest of the year, but bikes may still share the western portion with other traffic. We're excited to see the final iteration of Twin peaks and grateful to have collaborated with @sfrecpark.bsky.social on the bike elements of this project.
