The disrespect here is wild. reddit.com/r/decomps/s/... All for saying they're not interested in a race to the bottom. Treat people like putting in the real work like this, and they'll stop. Then all you'll have left is the slop.
To clarify further, AI is a form of automation. The problem is that people who have no business making recompilations are using AI to make them. They often have no clue what they're doing (at all). They end up with bad results. If you can't do it by hand, then you should not be using AI to do it.
I still see a lot of confusion about what decompilation, recompilation and ports are and what level of effort is involved in each type of project. It's important that people understand the difference, as recompilation took a drastically different meaning that when it was originally introduced.

I guess I fall under that umbrella too 😅 For building software in general, not just this specific field.
The existence of these projects doesn't deter us from doing them properly, but we've witnessed first-hand how they can demotivate a developer who was in the middle of creating a project that checks all the boxes of the quality standards that are expected by the public.
Thank God I can still read this. As long as I can continue to reason and decipher code like this by just looking; the AI drug hasn't got to me. x.com/jyobo10/stat...
It's possible, just extremely time consuming. 100-1000 of hours, as opposed to ~10h. What sucks is they didn't do the writeup themselves. -- That said, this is probably one of the best possible uses you could have for LLMs. Quite frankly, what you're asking is for them to spend 100s of hours...

The best 'halfway-compromise' there is that I accept ugly LLM code. And I focus on maxxing out end user experience above all. Maximize for correctness+performance- at expense of code style/quality. Because otherwise... feels like am just cooked. Really might not be room for us artisans anymore...
With recent AI advancements; I'm considering ceasing the creation of future Artisan-tier software following my next release (mid-November). Unfortunately(?); LLMs make it so you can get 80% of the User Experience quality with 10% of the work; even if the code itself is unreadable garbage.

And I know people are just going to tell me to take the L; and just join everyone else in making sub-par software. Sorry. Over my dead body.
