All the world is a narrow bridge, and the important thing is to not be afraid. I used to keep the gems secure.

@rideact.bsky.social I’m at 11th and Broadway and the last 22 literally did not stop even as I was waving at it at the stop marker. What gives. This isn’t acceptable to make me wait for twenty minutes. I need an explanation why the driver literally ignored a rider at a marked stop on their route.

@sfgiants.com want to explain how you sell out of the item you advertised for Jewish heritage night before the end of the first inning and the manager can’t be bothered to take down the ad, much less apologize for making me walk all the way across the park for nothing?

@rideact.bsky.social what happened to the 3:29PM NL from Lake park & lakeshore to SF? It never showed up and I can’t find any evidence of a canceled run — maps told us to take that bus and it’s hard to now be a half hour late!

@rideact.bsky.social this morning while waiting for the NL to SF at Lakeshore and Lake Park I followed the instructions posted and went to the temp stop at Wesley. Stood for 45 minutes and two NLs failed to stop despite me flagging & calling in. What’s going on?

I try not to dwell on the fact that this is what happened. It’s still sickening to me what Ruby central did, that they have no conscience for the harm they’ve caused. I want to move forward, and ruby centrals view of the world is clearly obdurate and stuck in a miserable past.

The events of the past week have still been really hard for me to process. The only way I can describe it is a nasty breakup of a decade-long relationship. I know people in the community are (rightfully) upset. I just ask that you remember individuals were directly hurt too.

This is, at best, an extreme mischaracterization of what’s happened over the past week. As a member of the rubygems team for over a decade, Ruby Central’s actions happened without discussion with the maintainers team. Afterwords, the entire team spoke out against what had happened.

Ruby Central just unilaterally wrested control from the maintainers team that has kept RubyGems and Bundler running. There is no other way to interpret their actions.

Today I’ll be mourning what’s happened to projects I have poured a third of my life into.

Hey, #ruby folks! I've been one of the #RubyGems maintainers for the last decade. Ruby Central has forcefully taken control of the RubyGems organization on GitHub, the `rubygems-update` and `bundler` gems on rubygems[.]org, and more. You can read the details here: pup-e.com/goodbye-ruby...

Today is my last day working full-time on RubyGems. While being able to focus on securing the Ruby packaging ecosystem has been a dream job, the time has come for me to move on from Ruby Central. I’ll still be maintaining RubyGems/Bundler/RubyGems.org, just not as my day job.

If you’re at the conference in Amsterdam and have time to post about the talks but not about the fact the man on stage giving the keynote has been using his platform to promote fascist ideals…. we notice that

If you saw a podcast named “The $x Podcast” where $x=open source project, would you expect the podcast to feature maintainers of $x?

For a tech conference in the US in 2025, what percentage of speakers from the CfP would you expect to be women? At what point would you be uncomfortable with that number being too low? Is 6/49 CfP speakers being women a red flag to you?

If you say you're looking for feedback, and then ignore anything that didn't come in your one chosen forum... do you want feedback or positive PR? I remember being taught the importance of meeting your customers where they are...

If you have thoughts about Ruby Central inviting a certain person to have a keynoting presence at RailsConf, I beg you to attend this and voice your concerns and make it clear the community has thoughts and feelings on the subject. bsky.app/profile/ruby...

My views are my own, and clearly not those of my employer but: it sure doesn't feel great to be told to be excited about the latest headliner for our organization's conference. Feels really gross, in fact.

Yeah no, this really stinks and I am so uncomfortable with what my employer chose to do. And that I then found out about via a marketing email.

That’s me!

Our Security Engineer in Residence, Samuel Giddins, gave a great talk on Sigstore in Ruby today at #RubyKaigi! We'll be sharing video once it's out. 🇯🇵

A poem Today I witnessed a miracle A short ride from the most evil place on earth Grounds forever stained with blood and tears and horror There still stands a building Yes, there is a cemetery outside Yes, the cemetery has graves Yes, the cemetery carries the whispers of our foreparents

But in the building There is more than just history More than just memories of the horrors and the loss Inside a city where once a community was numerous and strong Inside a country where they did their utmost to annihilate us

🚨 Ruby Central is seeking a new Executive Director! In this role, you’ll oversee #RubyConf and #RailsConf, help expand our Open Source Program, and drive community engagement, marketing, and fundraising to ensure the org's long-term growth and sustainability.

I led our work on this audit, and I'm really happy we did it. 1) We're in a good place 2) We know what to do to take things to the next level Thanks to Alpha-Omega & @trailofbits.bsky.social for making this possible! As always, feel free to reach out to me directly to discuss RubyGems security.
