If you're hearing about PHP software issues today, please be aware that a huge amount of companies using the Red Hat/Fedora Linux ecosystems (including Scryfall, we use CentOS), have been depending on the hard work of a single developer, Remi Collete @remirepo.net to keep PHP updated and modernized.

Follow up: Why? Saves us 40% on bandwidth yes really My software!? → The PNG version isn't going away, only the site images will be WebP. We never displayed PNGs unless you had Caster Mode on. WebPs have been live on the site since July 2026. If you're not having issues, enjoy the faster site

Yesterday, Wizards informed us that it doesn’t intend to voluntarily recognize the D&D or Studio X units of our union ahead of a vote. We remain committed to creating a workplace focused on wellness, transparency, and collaboration by winning our coming election.

If your AI chatbot is telling you to contact us with five paragraphs of pleading to give your MTG project the legal go-ahead and a little kiss on the forehead: just don't. We can't give you legal advice and we don't want to hear about your vibe app.

We've seen people confused about what exactly is going away. Alchemy (the format) is going away. Alchemy (the cards) are staying. Rebalanced cards will be reverted. Oracle of the Alpha stays. You can play it in Historic/Timeless. Rebalanced 0/3 A-Symmetry Sage is reverting to 0/2 Symmetry Sage.

Arena is sunsetting the Alchemy format. On September 22nd, the Arena client will revert all Rebalanced cards to their normal versions. On February 2nd 2027, it will drop support for the Alchemy format entirely. magic.wizards.com/en/news/mtg-... Here's how Scryfall's handling the Alchemy sunset. 🧵

This means the 0/3 Symmetry Sage will be removed from our site and included in the archive. Oracle of the Alpha *won't* be removed. All card pages will cease to list an Alchemy format legality.

Scryfall is redefining what a card being "full-art" means in search, and adding a new term: Translucent. Since the introduction of the is:default and is:atypical designations, one issue has surfaced from their definitions: cards with translucent frames (Eldrazis) were not showing up as "default". 🧵

On September 22nd: 1. We will save all of our Rebalanced card images and data to a zip file that people can download permanently. 2. We will convert all Rebalanced cards to their normal versions in all decklists on our site. 3. We will remove all of our database entries for Rebalanced cards.

Scryfall will be offline for approximately 1 hour on September 13, 2026 at 10:00 PM U.S. Eastern time for urgent system maintenance. During this maintenance, scryfall·io will also stop responding. We will post another message when services are restored.

We're getting reports of some people unable to see images on our site. Reports have come from different countries with different ISPs. We're not sure what's going on, and don't have anything to suggest at this point other than contact your ISP about the issue and wait it out.

We teamed up with MSCHF to take you back to 1992—when Magic was still a hand-edited, taped-together dream. Coming soon through the Chaos Vault.

Hi all! I've received many questions about the Zeta cards previewed today and their common rarity. These cards listed from SLZ (such as Baleful Strix, but there are more) will not change Pauper legality. Secret Lair reprints are not meant to impact Pauper. Thanks! #wotcstaff

Scryfall will be offline for approximately 1 hour starting at August 9, 2026 10:00 PM Eastern US time for critical database maintenance. The API will also be unavailable. We'll post another message when maintenance is over.

@scryfall.com's R2 bucket cache on our hosting provider is having intermittent issues with displaying images at the moment. Hoping it clears up soon. But you may run into situations where a card's image does not load at all. Please bear with us until the hosting issue resolves itself!

Here's some @scryfall.com FYI/trivia: We often get tickets the day we upload cards saying "This card shows up when I request no reprints" but the card is clearly a reprint. This is because there is a nightly job that reconciles reprints. They will show up properly the next day. Patience! Patience!
