This story is so wrong, and so heartbreaking, that I could go on about it for days. And it pertains to far more than AI and health care. So I will just say: if you’re too benighted to grasp whom you should trust about complex matters requiring expertise, there is nothing anyone can do to help you.

From my childhood through the entirety of my medical training, HIV was a terminal illness. I blinked my eyes, looked up from my specialty journals, and it had become a chronic, manageable condition. This was over 20 years ago, of course, so people forget about it. But they shouldn’t.
Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

@sixersnba.bsky.social what's a guy gotta do to buy season tickets?? I have submitted my name for information multiple times, starting over a month ago, and nobody has gotten back to me. I can't chat with a rep... I can't get anyone on the phone... I had tickets 2 years ago and it wasn't this hard.
If your judgement is so poor that you think you should listen to RFKJ rather than your pediatrician, there’s nothing I nor anyone else can do. If people have agency, you need to acknowledge the consequences of their agency rather than shifting the blame elsewhere.
We really need to push back on the narrative that actually doctors were so snooty they made people say “I’m still glad I didn’t vaccinate my kid who just died of measles”. The pathos is way fucking deeper than a pediatrician was condescending one time. This framing undercuts medical expertise.
share.inquirer.com/3SgaoH Infantino just concluded a highly successful World Cup. That he now finds himself clinging to the FIFA Presidency by his fingernails has to go down as one of the greateat political missteps in decades. A truly breathtaking feat of hubris, misjudgment, and stupidity.
This is just a very large-scale and severe demonstration of the principle that when you play too hard to win your primary, you screw yourself for the general election.
This is really something. Republicans privately fear Trump is now trapped in a "quagmire" in Iran that is set to screw them badly in the midterms, per Politico. They did this to themselves by giving this madman a blank check for the war. We detail it all on the pod: newrepublic.com/article/2133...
OMG this is just too good... Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK) is facing a very stiff challenge from Democratic Rep. Mary Peltola , and the race could be quite close. Now somebody else has filed to get on the ballot, and his name is ... Dan Sullivan. 🤣 www.nytimes.com/2026/05/30/u...
www.newyorker.com/magazine/202... There’s enough snake oil in this piece to deep-fry a whole Indiana Jones movie scene full of snakes. Some blame modern medicine, but I think the problem runs much, much deeper than that. This is a failure to understand expertise. And it’s infecting every field.

He's worse than Roger Taney now. He's the worst Chief Justice in history, I'd say.
The John Roberts Court has done more to reduce the political power of poor people and Black people while enlarging the voting rights of rich people and corporations than has any court since Roger Taney was Chief Justice in the 1800s. I opposed his nomination in 2005, and I stand by that.
All of this. The problem is that there is been not nearly enough of a PR push in this direction, so the country likely would not be a place to support these things yet.
Restructure the court. Go to 13 seats (to correspond to number of circuits.) Go to term limits. Retroactively if possible. Investigate and if appropriate prosecute/disbar justices who have been on the take. Establish strict enforceable ethical guidelines for the court. Then move on...

It appears that even this corrupt Supreme Court won’t go for the utter ludicrousness of banning birthright citizenship, which is plainly enumerated in the Constitution. Which, of course, leaves us with the question of why they took the case in the first place… www.nytimes.com/live/2026/04...

If more income inequality, more fantasies about beating the rich. Why don’t the rich understand this?
I interrupt this moment with some nerd shit. This is from the Spirit Level comparing the degree of inequality in a state (ratio of income of the top 20% to the income the bottom 20%) and confidence that you would do better than average in a fist fight. Not with a bear but still notable.

We should try capping political donations in PA. Tell Mike Bloomberg & Yass & Bezos & Musk—from now on, the max donation to a candidate for governor is $1,000 or whatever. Letting Bloomberg give $2.5M to our governor is bananas, no matter who the governor is. share.inquirer.com/1LtrB5
The Republicans are heading for a historic drubbing in the midterms, and no, Trump’s threatened proto-fascist bullshit won’t be even close to enough to stop it. And despite the fact that this is entirely predictable, the whole narrative around Trump and the GOP will change dramatically.
Trump begins his Iran war facing a steep uphill climb on public opinion. Per UMD poll this month, just 21% of US adults said they support a US attack on Iran. That’s 6% of Democrats, 21% of independents and 40% of Republicans. Also of note: plenty of undecideds.

Every DA in every big city in America should be saying this right now, and be fully prepared to back it up. share.inquirer.com/bPy1NT
I want to make another point: We in healthcare understand that prevention is nowhere near as sexy as treatment, but it saves a whole lot more lives. Krasner is directly preventing deaths by doing this. Other DAs who follow suit would also be saving lives.
