Beyond that, these companies are all the ultimate welfare Queens, taking our government money and tax benefits over and over to grow. They would be nowhere without our taxpayer dollars.

There's only one way out of this mess: the rapid disassembly of the American internet and the rapid creation of a post-American internet, one built on open, auditable, sovereign digital public goods, internationally built and maintained: pluralistic.net/2026/01/01/3... 51/

Did decades of protecting systems for US Government. This is Security 101. The arrogance of bro boy developers was bad then, developers wanted perpetual God rights, full Admin, had to convince them it wasn't necessary. But now they really just don't care about protecting anybody but themselves.

When an AI company's security tool "escapes containment" and hacks someone else's servers, we need to ask the company "Why do you suck so bad at building secure sandboxes for your hacking tools?" rather than "Why are your hacking tools so amazingly powerful?" 24/

Peak idiocy hit when I dealt with a University that was running a Nuclear Plant for our military for studies, and got badly hacked, probably by China. In rebuilding their systems had an unreal fight with the lead admin. He insisted everybody needed God rights. Proved they didn't. He didn't care.

Plenty to reflect about re: the Arday affair, but I'm going to repeat this one thing. The playbook the right used here is effective even though it's not especially sophisticated, as it relies on the audience to do the dirty work. I've been calling it "Trojan horse propaganda", let's go with that. 1/
