Artists are going to be more important than ever because of the AI coding boom. With coding being basically free, anybody can make any program; games included. The BIGGEST bottleneck is art. Visual assets take the longest to make, and taste still matters.

Seriously, making a program do something useful is now the easy part. Making it look good is much, much harder. And it's where artists will be needed.
