I forgot to turn my morning alarm back on, but something deep inside caused me to lurch awake 30 minutes later than usual, so. Hectic morning but everyone is where they need to be!!

I am at World Fantasy! I'm going to chill at the Tachyon booth in the dealer's hall at 11 if anyone wants to say hi I have a reading during the 1-2:30pm slot in Salon 1&2 if you want to hear me read from my short story collection And you can find me at the mass autographing tonight!

In my frenzy to finish this book this week, I might have left too much on my To Do List for tomorrow... emails, social media, day job, donation prep, two stores, baking for cake walk, laundry, pack for World Fantasy, don't mind me I have died in advance 🙈

I have been up since 4am... it is almost 8pm... all I have left is packing but it means I have to unpack the suitcase I loaded with memorabilia during the last fire scare 😭

Now at the stage of editing where I make a list of every time I mentioned age, time of year, time of day, or how long it has been since something else happened, and pray there aren't any unfixable contradictions

I don't think I can click this one or I'll have a bad day. But I definitely thought I had no residual stress about my own high school shooting until my kids started school, and then this visceral fear kicked in imagining them going through it. Super cool that it's only gotten worse in 25 years.

since California ballots are now out: prop 40 is the billionaire tax, and you should vote yes to stick it to them but both props 41 and 42 are designed to retroactively cancel the billionaire tax because they’re afraid they can’t beat it at the ballot box yes on 40, no on 41 and 42

I've been thinking a lot about how much tech is being implemented "for your convenience!" but it adds so much damn busywork to my daily life. The advance check-in surveys for doctor's appts were today's nonsense. (Times 2, since I'm taking both kids in!)

This post is unavailable.

Instead of appts just taking up the time I allotted on the calendar, they're also now eating into my time the day before. Log in, 2FA, input code, dig around for forms, take photos of my insurance card yet again, etc. Omg just check me in when I get there, I'm drowningggg

Constant newsletters from the kids' schools. Emails with attached flyers with QR codes that I need a second device to scan. The lengths I have to go to in order to avoid downloading anyone's app. The barrage of emails I need to unsubscribe from every time I buy any damn thing. Leave me aloooone ;_;

Starting to think that the most important lessons of my childhood have turned out to be: "don't trust somebody trying to flatter you" "doing it the hard way is character building" "look it up yourself / don't believe everything you hear" and the general encouragement to always be learning something

Were the methods sometimes unhinged?? Perhaps! But my mom telling us bizarre lies to see if we'd believe her, then lecturing us on being gullible, means I always check the sources. 😅

I have a beautiful painting of a faun that my mom bought from an Italian artist in the 70s and I just KNOW it has got to be more vibrant under the layers of the smoke that accrued in our house, I just haven't had the nerve to get a restoration quote yet XD

It wasn't until it became kind of gross socially that my parents finally febreezed the place and began smoking in the yard. Our young lungs weren't enough to dissuade them, but social pressure did the trick!

I have had the same fully knobbed up car for 16 years, and I keep joking that I am not replacing it until either a) knobs come back, or b) the wheels shoot off and the whole thing collapses into spare parts beneath me like a cartoon I might actually make it to option a !!

9yo is terrified of snakes IRL but loves snake breeding youtube, so right now she is explaining to me the benefits of incubating eggs in perlite or vermiculite while I try to finish re-binding a book

My unwritten essay on the psychosexual issues woven through the Back to the Future series would definitely have a big section on the decision to cast Lea Thompson as Marty's great-great-grandmother

Have ALL the McFly boys been marrying women who look just like their mother? Or is it just George McFly who had the confusing hots for a woman who looked exactly like, idk, an aunt or cousin or young pics of a grandma in the McFly line? We know he's a bit of a perv. But to what extent. Discuss.

The next month is going to be increasingly tense in the U.S., so here is my warning that when daylight saving time ends 2 days before the election, the urge for everyone to blow their top on something lower stakes and fight about time changes may be irresistible. Log on or off accordingly 😅
