I laughed out loud four times while listening to Kevin Roose on Decoder. This is not complimentary.

I have zero reverence* for BioWare games but their impact and legacy is undeniable. Also difficult to articulate how cool it was to have this revered studio in Edmonton. Goes without saying, but feel for the folks out of work. *Anthem’s bones were great and it deserved more time to get figured out

At the end of the day, it’s not how much it cost, it’s not that it was a huge waste of time and effort and attention, the thing that pisses me off the most about the referendum is just how stupid these people are.

Gruber’s Twitter thing is truly crazy. Thanks for letting us know that they cleaned up the local CSAM Depot and Nazi bar, man.

Credits on Control Resonant. Second half of the game really pulled me back in, but it almost lost me when it did its last-act gimmick. Other side of that was good. Certainly not as good as Control, but such a cool world. Can’t imagine playing this pre-release without the combat balancing.

A cool thing about living in a place like Alberta is you will randomly see couples’ engagement photos and the woman is dressed like an Earl’s host and the man will be in his nicest TapOut t-shirt with jeans that have been hemmed by dragging them on the earth for three years and no one seems to care

One of the wildest things about modern conservatism (though it has helped them be successful) is the refusal to accept that other people and their life experiences are legitimate. A deeply embarrassing position to articulate.

Nick Heer@nickheer.com

The actual story here is that conservative parties are populated by enough conspiracy theorists that leadership caters to the dumbest ideas, and that conservatives have spent decades complaining about media bias. This leads to the CBC giving cranks a platform.

I just don’t think many people are interested in actually owning a foldable phone, and will be surprised if Apple is successful in the space. You gotta think if the iPhone Duo fails, the whole market for foldables will disappear.

Albertans, here is a quick guide to the ten-question referendum: Question 1: do you want to somehow restrict movement within Canada? Questions 2–5: do you want more bureaucracy? Questions 6–9: do you want to shout at Ottawa? Question 10: do you want to do the dumbest possible thing we could do?

I’ve worked in journalism and comms for 20 years and have never seen a person in either field who calls themself a “storyteller” not be insanely annoying, bad at their job, or both.

@nickheer.com Finally got down to Calgary this week. Ate at: Pigeonhole: great happy hour Bar Gigi: exceptional Sukiyaki House: very good Paper Lantern: great food, fun cocktails Lots more places we want to try. Really seems like Calgary has leap-frogged Edmonton’s restaurant scene.

Some of the best advice I ever received for using the web is to only browse reddit while logged out so you won’t impulsively try to argue or reason with the absolute dumbest mother fuckers imaginable

I’m pretty sure I first hear Northernlion mention this? Anyways, everyone in Edmonton angry about infill lives in a home with flaking lead paint.

BioWare doesn’t exist within six months, yeah? Very sad.

I think if you use any consumer AI service regularly you are a dork, but if you pay for an AI subscription you’re a dullard and I don’t know why anyone would trust your work or opinions on anything

I can’t do many of my hobbies anymore (can’t import anything without huge fees or packages being destroyed by customs), can’t upgrade any of my computer hardware, have to be careful of what/where I eat because of diarrhea diseases… seems like stuff SUCKS COMPLETE SHIT compared to a few years ago

Incredible timing for the Gamspot layoffs today coinciding with @jeffgerstmann.com’s bonus podcast yesterday. Support folks who are still trying to make a healthy games press (like Jeff!) if you can. The ghouls don’t care, so we have to. jeff.zone/posts/bonus-...

I assume it’s because the guy is an anchor at this point, but it’s wild that Poilievre has surrounded himself with the dimmest staff imaginable that they would allow him to look like this in literally any setting, even Stampede.

Corey Atad@coreyatad.com

can't stop laughing at this Poilievre: "We will reinstill a warrior culture, not a woke culture."

And not to carry water for the guy nor go all dieworkwear, but here’s the PM at the same event in an unstructured jacket, chambray shirt, jeans and a straw cattleman hat (without a Liberal logo). One of these guys made some simple decisions, the other went to a costume store.

Everyday I wake up and learn about the new ways ghouls and charlatans are destroying my hobbies and various other things I love

A few thoughts after finishing 007 First Light, a game I liked quite a bit. No action-adventure game needs to be longer than this. It made me want more Hitman. It made me never want to look at a frame of Uncharted ever again.

An insane controversy has happened organically in my feed and I’m pleased to now have had the Full Bluesky Experience™ and will be deleting my account

I agree with the sentiment here, but this type of art doesn’t exist without consciously playing to nostalgia and that’s a fair angle for criticism. I get where Grubb is coming from; being in his line of work has got to be exhausting at times. It sucks that this is so much of pop culture now.

Jeff Grubb@grubb.wtf

The actually worst quality of Gen X and Millennials is this inability to realize that even if something looks like it's made for you, it's not. Stranger Things are in happy meals right now. Mixtape is for someone who is young now. Please just try being normal.

"I was very impressed with myself to have the head of Apple calling to 'kiss my ass.' ... That was the beginning of a long and very nice relationship." This is forever Tim Cook's legacy -- lauded for kissing Trump's ass.

I can’t even muster the effort to pirate Wrestlemania this year and this is what attendees are being force fed

Dan Ryckert@danryckert.com

Historic high ticket prices and now they’re inserting ads into the middle of entrances, even in the arena. Live crowd is starting to boo when these happen.

I can’t stress how much I hate being corny, but I had a meeting at Canada Place in Edmonton and caught the end of a citizenship ceremony in the atrium. Two dozen new Canadians, beaming families, perfect vibes. A brief balm during these fucked times.

I’m so glad I finally built a gaming PC. Should try to sell my launch PS5 that hasn’t been turned on in like six months.
