1/ With a federal election on the horizon🗳️, I'm diving into the last 20+ Years of Legislation (since Poilievre entered HOC). From bills that passed with royal assent to those that didn't make it past first reading, this thread explores what they tell us about those vying to lead Canada.🍁🧵 #cdnpoli

We’re two CPC majorities away from the CAF dusting off the Diefenbaker-era “gaydar” machine. This isn’t balance. It’s rot. #CDNPoli #CDNelxn #elxn45 ✳️Free to subscribe: ryanritchie.substack.com Full piece on the transphobic debacle at the French Leaders' debate: open.substack.com/pub/ryanritc...

open.substack.comTwo Genders, One Cowardly Answer, and the Collapse of Liberal CourageWhile Liberals Watch, the Overton Window Is Ripped Off Its Hinges and Hauled Right

Was Poilievre's closing statement just him reading a script from one of his ads/commercials? Did that seriously just happen?! 😕🤣 Well, that was an extremely boring debate. 2 hours of my life I won't get back. #CDNPoli #CDNelxn #elxn45

Singh and the NDP have given an underwhelming performance worthy of criticism in this debate (along w/ their platform), but please Liberals, the whole "he's interrupting". Give it a break. Your boy Carney & Poilievre are eating up the clock. He's just trying to be heard. #CDNPoli #CDNelxn #elxn45

Poilievre on Gaza: "We must condemn Hamas & Iran & go after the terrorists". Cool, you can start with Israel, the IDF, & Netanyahu with his ICC warrant. What a pathetic response, he quite literally has no knowledge of the deep history on this topic. Embarrassing stuff.😬 #CDNPoli #CDNelxn #elxn45

Every Poilievre response during this debate: blah blah blah taxes How do you solve a cost-of-living/housing crisis by tinkering around the edges with taxes, while giving corporate welfare to the O&G industry, Bay Street, and ultra-wealthy? Sounds like a moron to me.🤔🤷 #CDNPoli #CDNelxn #elxn45

WTF was that "tough on crime" nonsense from Poilievre?! Does he not realize many of us have followed US politics closely for a decade? Those were literal GOP talking points, verbatim. Still with the unconstitutional "three-strike policy". F that Friedrich Hayek lovin' loon. #CDNPoli #CDNelxn #elxn45

The biggest danger here is Poilievre's attempt to expand the Overton window to federal use of the notwithstanding clause. Honestly, play it out in your head. What happens if a Liberal gov't felt emboldened now to use it, only to have a province use it in response? Welcome to a constitutional crisis.

Poilievre's housing plan is gobbledygook. No mention of REITs, investors, etc. Look at my pinned thread to see the CPC housing record: Bill C-285 (39-1), Bill C-304 (40-2), Bill C-400 (41-1), Bill C-241 (41-2), Bill C-264 (42-1), Bill C-265 (42-1), Bill C-245 (42-1) #CDNPoli #CDNelxn #elxn45

Bill C-264 (42-1) “An Act to amend the Canadian Bill of Rights (right to housing)” PP: n/a Bill C-265 (42-1) “An Act to.., adequate, accessible and affordable housing for Canadians (Secure, Adequate, Accessible and Affordable Housing Act)” PP: n/a Bill C-245 (42-1) "Poverty Reduction Act" PP: nay

Those n/a votes have context in the bill analysis. Long story short: The Harper-era CPC did not think housing was a top-priority concern, instead allowing the market to do its thing, just as Liberals have done for the past decade.

Poilievre is just talking out of both sides of his mouth here. Trying to be tough on Trump/America, while also bowing to him. He's telling Canadians he's much more comfortable trampling over Canadian sovereignty (Indigenous rights) than confronting daddy Trump. #CDNPoli #CDNelxn #elxn45

Poilievre has spoken three times early in the debate. I'm listening for who the winners/losers are in this debate, and each comment, PP has one clear pattern: Winners - Private-Sector, Ultra-wealthy, O&G Sector. Losers - Working-class Canadians. Indigenous communities. #CDNPoli #CDNelxn #elxn45

Unconstitutional campaign promises: Liberal overreach = “visionary” CPC overreach = “bold”, "tough on crime" NDP ambition = “lol they don’t understand jurisdiction” Same playbook. Different judgment. Guess it’s only a crisis when poor people benefit. #CdnPoli open.substack.com/pub/ryanritc...

Perks for paid subs will be pretty modest to start — I’m talking things like 3 free gift subs each month to share with friends, family, or that coworker who almost gets it. But down the road, as we grow, I want to offer more — community spaces, bonus breakdowns, twitch streams, the list goes on.

Whether you're reading for free or throwing a few bucks in the hat, I'm truly grateful. This isn't about becoming a brand. It's about building something honest, sharp, & rooted in working-class politics — from someone who's been on both sides of the glass. Let’s build something real together. ✊🏽

I don't want anyone to feel pressured to fork over money just to stay informed or politically engaged. That’s not what we’re doing here. That said — if you're in a place where you can support the work, there are monthly, annual, and “founding member” plans available.

This isn’t about pundit spin or chasing clout/clicks. This is about power — who has it, who doesn’t, and why status-quo centrists always seem more outraged at the people fighting for justice than the ones bulldozing democracy.

- While the bill analysis may be missing post-2019 (initially), there's no point in letting that valuable research go to waste. So, the first thing I plan to do is create a more up-to-date voting record for Poilievre for folks to use as they please, as we hope to stop a CPC takeover.

You can still follow the thread here on Bluesky where I'll offer weekly updates, but you'll have to use Google Docs to read the content, which I'll offer direct links for. Appreciate all the support. Hope you fine folks out there are doing well!

- Once caught up, the goal is to shift focus to bills in real-time as they're passing through the HoC. - Between the never-ending omnibus bills to close out the Liberal majority term, a snap election call, and being in the centre of a historic ice storm, the thread flow was severely hampered.

- I wanted to offer the full picture for voters as they head to the polls. That won't happen. And I'm not sure it really matters anyway. This project can still be a valuable evergreen tool moving forward. - Part of the project was a close analysis of Pierre Poilievre's voting record.
