Thank you for joining us tonight! It’s been a pleasure to be in community with each of you. I can’t wait until next month! #ElemMathChat Again, I'm happy to stay until you've all had enough! #ElemMathChat is a highlight of each month. When I can't attend, I have an extreme sense of FOMO!

One Too Many: A Seek & Find Counting Book written and illustrated by Gianna Marino is visual candy. The book encourages children to see specific numbers within increasingly complex pictures. I love to use this book to discuss “cumulative total” with teachers. #ElemMathChat

One Family by George Shannon and illustrated by Blanca Gómez allows conversations about unitizing to begin. The book explores ideas such as “One is five” meaning five bananas constitute one bunch. #ElemMathChat

I feel like this hour is moving at warp speed. Feel free to answer these questions at your own pace. I'll stick around as long as anyone is here to interact! #ElemMathChat

Some of you have already started answering this one! Q3: What are your favorite number sense activities? Bonus points for links to, or pictures of, the activities! #ElemMathChat

Can't wait to be with all of you! #ElemMathChat

A2: I love books of all sorts. Stories are a great way to get kids thinking about mathematics. Even if a book isn’t explicitly about math, we can use the characters and plot to imagine the math embedded in the story or in the lives of the characters.

Hi #ElemMathChat! I’m Ryan, a professor at Butler University. Picking just one book to share is incredibly difficult, but the one that immediately comes this mind is Boot & Shoe by Marla Frazee.

Just received notification that I was accepted to speak at @nctm.org’s Annual Meeting in Denver. No, that’s not me in the photo! “Making Early Childhood Numeracy Count” on Thursday, October 29 from 2:45-4pm in the Colorado Convention Center - Bluebird Ball 3F Who else is going?!

#ElemMathChat A3 - I try to model asking questions as much as I can to encourage students to do the same. I ask “How do you know that?” a lot. I also love being surprised by students and seeing their spark when I say, “I’ve never seen that before. Could you tell me how it works?”
