So many flies! And on flipping days it feels like we are responsible for all of them...
40 years ago today, the BDSC made its 1st shipment. To celebrate, Trudy Kaufman, who packed the 1st shipment, boxed up the same kinds of flies for John Roote at Cambridge, who placed the 1st order. Watch for pics of the arrival next week. We’ve shipped 4,882,378 vials total. That’s a lot of flies!
Greetings from our regional #Drosophila meeting on #Helgoland! Also amazing meeting @maikbischoff.bsky.social here!
If you are looking for a PhD position and you like working with #Drosophila, I highly recommend applying. You will not only do exciting science, you will also have an amazing mentor.
Interested in using #Drosophila genetics & advanced imaging combined with modeling to study inter-organ transport and epithelial dynamics? We’re hiring a #PhD student @uni-muenster.de, based at the Multiscale Imaging Center and @sfb1348.bsky.social Graduate School. Apply here tinyurl.com/ypx74a5d
I highly recommend everyone to apply for this meeting. It is such an amazing experience with amazing science, awesome people and at a gorgeous location!
Greetings from the JEDI members that were selected for this year's @embo.org #Drosophila Crete meeting. Congratulations for giving amazing talks! From left: Helene Knævelsrud @helene-knavelsrud.bsky.social, Katja Rust @rustflylab.bsky.social and Julie Carnesecchi @jcarnesecchi.bsky.social
One more day left before leaving for the @embo.org Crete meeting for Molecular and Developmental Biology of #Drosophila! Very excited to meet everyone!
Last day of an amazing meeting from the @sfb1348.bsky.social in Münster! I learned so many interesting aspects of mechanosensing here and have loved to talk to all the outstanding scientists here.
I am very much looking forward to the upcoming SFB 1348 meeting! This will be exciting - see you in Münster!
The @sfb1348.bsky.social Meeting “Mechanochemical Signals at Cellular Interfaces” is just around the corner! We are excited to welcome an outstanding lineup of international speakers to #Münster for three days of inspiring scientific exchange and discussion. @uni-muenster.de
Wow! We are now supported by both the company of biologists and EMBO! I am so proud of our organising team!
Amazing news! The company of biologists @biologists.bsky.social has decided to support our upcoming meeting! We now only have a couple of spots left for the upcoming JEDI #Drosophila meeting. 📍Palmela, Portugal 📅 June 1st to 3rd Register: congressos.mundiconvenius.pt/geral/inseri...

Extended registration deadline for our conference (June 1st - 3rd in Palmela, Portugal) to May 15th! Join if you are a Junior #Drosophila PI or senior #postdoc about to transition to independence. Spread the word! 🎬Venue: www.youtube.com/watch?v=_P1n... 🔗Registration: fly-jedi.org/meetings/202...
Our work got featured at ClearSkyScience. It's very exciting to see the breakdown of your own work written by someone else. I admit that I cannot fully endorse the figures but this was an interesting experience! www.clearskyscience.com/en/10.1038/s...
This meeting was amazing! I had the pleasure of chairing one of the sessions and loved the science!
Thanks to Girish Kale (@girishkalephd.bsky.social) for reporting on our joint developmental biology meeting in Potsdam #GfE2026 #GfESEBDDSDB2026. enjoy the read: thenode.biologists.com/meeting-repo... looking forward to seeing you and @the-node.bsky.social at #GfE2028
Look at this view! And even better: every attendee gives a talk making this meeting extremely collaborative. This is THE meeting to be for #NewPI #Drosophila researchers - and those who want to connect to them!
Calling all #Drosophila #NewPI #researchers! A few spots remain for the upcoming JEDI Conference - and you won’t want to miss this! Every attendee gives a talk, making the exchange dynamic, personal, and highly interactive - all at a stunning venue that inspires collaboration and creativity.
We are now online! Visit our new lab website at: www.rustresearchlab.com
Time to share some data that might get buried in the supplement of our recent paper here rdcu.be/e91Kj Here you can see how cells intercalate in a coordinated fashion. They move from a double rowed organisation to a single row stalk. 🧵
Our paper is now available as early access at Nature Communications! Using the #Drosophila follicle epithelium as a model, we applied #scRNAseq, #LiveImaging, and cell biological tools to unravel functions of aberrant EGFR-Ras and Hedgehog signaling. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Amazing! Looking forward to meeting great scientists!
The registration is open! Junior #Drosophila PIs, join us for inspiring scientific discussion, contribute a talk and listen to our keynote speaker, Eugenia Chiappe. We meet in Palmela, Portugal from June 1st to 3rd. Register soon as spots are limited! congressos.mundiconvenius.pt/geral/inseri...

Hello everyone! We decided to automate our sign-up process for the JEDI network. Please register using this link: docs.google.com/forms/d/1IdO... Thanks to everyone who reached out! We are looking forward to building our community with you. Share and repost!!! #Drosophila @fly-eds.bsky.social
Dear JEDIs, as we are self-organizing using the #EDRC as a nucleator we decided it is time for a JEDI database to boost our network! If you identify as a JEDI, please contact us here or send a mail to katja.rust@uni-marburg.de to be added to our database. #Drosophila @fly-eds.bsky.social
Met a new friend at the #EDRC meeting today who is also a @fly-jedi.bsky.social!
This would be an incredible disaster to the #Drosophila community. And it sets a frightening sign for the entire scientific community. 🧪 The fly labs from @unimarburg.bsky.social are trying to organize to tackle this together.
#Drosophila @flybase.bsky.social requires emergency funding: "As it stands, by the end of July, 2025, there will be no future updates to #FlyBase, and in the worst case scenario access to the website will also be lost". Please help if you can!
Apparently we do not have a JEDI starter pack yet. @fly-jedi.bsky.social and everyone else: let me know which other Junior European #Drosophila Investigators are missing! go.bsky.app/PcTGEMc
Greetings from the @fly-jedi.bsky.social conference in France at beautiful Chateau du Fey! Lots of amazing #Drosophila folks here!
It's official: we're #hiring another #PhD student! If you are interested in combining #SingleCell technology, #microscopy and #Drosophila genetics to investigate how cells become #cancerous contact me or apply directly under the following link: stellenangebote.uni-marburg.de/jobposting/6...
Today is the deadline for the early bird registration of the European #Drosophila meeting @edrc2025.bsky.social in Alicante. Anyone joining me there?
