(person in 2026 discussing AI) how can a thing 'be' if it doesn't exist moment to moment (1500 year dead Indian monk who knows about the storehouse consciousness awakens from slumber, eyes glowing red)

i think citizenship should be given, no questions asked, to anyone who comes to Ireland and sticks it out for say 3 years. 3 years of these winters - cold, wet, dark, miserable, buses that randomly don't show up, and you wanna stay? Welcome. This island is a monastery, you are a child of God.

if i posted this on X, by now, i'd have people threatening to kill me.

if you come from, i dunno, the beaches of Brazil, and you rock up to this damp dark rock, and say "yes, this is my home" then you have achieved total enlightenment. You are unbound by material forces.

a cool thing is googling something like "darkness retreats in europe" and getting directed to a bunch of ai slop sites that talk about retreats that don't exist. very cool world we've made here.

Things just happen to be as they are, but we want to build them into a pattern, laid down by the structure of our language. So strong is this habit, that we tend to deny reality to what cannot be verbalized.

i'm presuming Movember is now dead given that every second lad has a moustache.

listening to that there Turnstile. "Birds" Not really my bag, but not bad. Not bad at all.

People used to get online famous by saying like, “Uhh yeah, I love making my HOT BEAN JUICE every single morning!!!” But now you have to say like, the Monopoly Man fucked my ass

i'd love to do one of those week long total darkness retreats.

consider the alternative position that time is not passing

Anybody any tips on how to stop the passage of time?

You wouldn’t believe how many times I’ve been sent that “guided meditation from a Louth man” clip.

While “the power of art can change the world” is definitely overstated, it is also, conversely, undervalued. The world, is your world, your ’reality’ and that is built on many layers of language, DNA, society, culture. Art is a powerful medium both for ideas but also seeds beyond our understanding.

Happy clappy wishcasting think positive liberals are obviously a danger, but at the same time, there’s a certain breed of leftist man (And its always men) who after any positive news always have to jump in with “eh, this actually isn’t good” They are as much a hindrance to progress as liberals

I think a problem is, (in many places) that people cannot hold two apparently opposing thoughts in their head at once. Everything is A not B to them, whereas life is much more complex / nuanced. You can say a situation is bad and acknowledge the good within it (and vice versa!)

there’s an interpretation of the yin yang symbol that interprets it as not forces in opposition of each other, but how one thing becomes another, and contains the seed of the other. transformation, not binary opposition.

We have scrubbed the world clean of magic..., the price that must be paid for attempting to control the world from the standpoint of an "I" for whom everything that can be experienced is a foreign object and a nothing-but. ― Alan Watts (in The Book: On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are)

If the reason for staying on X is it's critical or whatever it's where the conversations are, ok, what ever helps you sleep better but if Bluesky is irrelevant etc. and you don't like it...then log off! Literally don't open the app. There is no reason to use it! Stop complaining and touch grass.

“protein enriched chocolate chip cookie” is kinda the perfect synthesis of the conflicting american male desires to be a spartan warrior and also five years old

I know we see posts like this every week now and whatever but you have to drop your jaw every so often at these total freaks.

cool, cool

Zaytoon is playing latin music. Freaking my nut out.

If you are adverse to hugging like I have been generally, acquiring latin American in laws opens up a whole new world of awkwardness.

When I was a child I had a loose tooth and my granny asked to look at it and she yanked it out of my head.

"Remember, even if the countless buddhas in ten directions, as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, tried with all their power and all their Buddha-wisdom to calculate or comprehend the merit of one person's Zazen, they could not even get close."

My powers

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

I would argue non alcoholic beer is the opposite of functional beer.

my emergency box contains 10 cans of chickpeas, and a charged ipad with just one video file on it - the cruel tutelage of Pai Mei episode of Kill Bill.
