What a waste of taxpayers' money. Commissioning research on #AircraftNoise and then ignoring it when the conclusions are inconvenient! Any airport expansion will just increase the impact on the health of overflown communities and the costs to the NHS. #Don'tGrowHeathrow #No3rdRunway

Noise pollution isn’t just annoying, it can have serious health impacts. The Government is currently ignoring its own research into the topic as UK policy continues to lag behind WHO recommendations. 3/3 www.aef.org.uk/2026/06/30/n...

What a waste of £3m. We could tell them for nothing that the economic case for #Heathrow expansion doesn't stack up. Even the DfT's own figures show it doesn't. Perhaps what the bankers are really been paid for is to come up with figures that could be used to justify expansion?

#Heathrow will be running a series of in person 'consultation' events. But don't expect them to ask you if you agree with expansion, nor to tell you where the new flightpaths would be. But if we don't go they will claim nobody minds expansion, so we'll be there. www.heathrow.com/expansion/ne...

Yes - there's a good chance the impact on GDP could be negative once all the negative externalities play out. And any growth that there is will be heavily concentrated on the already overcrowded South East, leaving the regions to lose out. #Don'tGrowHeathrow

HACAN@hacan1.bsky.social

Chancellor John Healey says that expanding #Heathrow would boost growth, no doubt egged on by the pro expansion Treasury. Yet the DfT forecasts only 0.05% extra GDP by 2056. Even that doesn't properly price in all the costs of the negative impacts on health, environment & congestion. #No3rdRunway

So true. We are up against the vast lobbying resources of the #FossilFuel industry. The best way to offset that is for all of us to lobby our MPs to let them know that we really care about green growth.

We agree with Simon Jenkins that #Heathrow's 3rd runway plans should be stopped, but we don't agree that #Gatwick or #Stansted should be expanded instead. That won't solve the #climate problem. Demand management is the only answer compatible with climate goals. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

This is great news. After things looked pretty bleak a few weeks ago, opinion (both in the government and the media) now seems to be shifting against #Heathrow expansion. We're crossing fingers. #Don'tGrowHeathrow

HACAN@hacan1.bsky.social

Even the #FinancialTimes is getting in on the #Don'tGrowHeathrow act. It says "the need for giant hubs is being challenged by the rise of long-range narrow-body planes that go to places their bigger predecessors couldn’t" & describes the 0.05% GDP as a rounding error www.ft.com/content/864a...

Great to see an RTFoE member's dog getting stuck into some environmental campaigning! Obviously she doesn't want her walkies ruined by up to 700 more planes every day. And we agree with her on that. #Don'tGrowHeathrow #No3rdRunway

What the best dressed dogs are wearing in South West London this Autumn. At least the smart ones!! They know it would be barking mad to expand #Heathrow!! #Don'tGrowHeathrow #No3rdRunway

Yes we love @theguardian.com too but even the environmentally inept Daily Torygraph suggested last week that Labour might block #Heathrow expansion. Hoping it's true.

Clearly this is unfair. It's surprising that other high emitting industries aren't up in arms about having to shoulder more of the carbon reduction burden while #aviation doesn't pull its weight. Perhaps because most of their CEOs are frequent flyers themselves like many wealthy people?

Why should aviation get a bigger share of the carbon budget? Other sectors are decarbonising, but aviation is projected to become the UK’s largest emitting sector by 2040. Is this fair?

Hopefully @andyburnham.bsky.social will let the democratically elected Mayor of London decide.

HACAN@hacan1.bsky.social

We got very excited when we saw this headline but sadly @andyburnham.bsky.social isn't ruling it out either. Still it's a step in the right direction. Contrary to #Heathrow's spin we are confident that Londoners don't want more noise, pollution and congestion. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Richmond and Twickenham Friends of the Earth reposted

Hoping Labour MPs are in listening mode because if they examine the facts they will realise that expanding #Heathrow just doesn't make sense on so many criteria.

🚨🗣️ Final call! Protect communities from more noise and air pollution, and help keep aviation's emissions within safe limits. Say no to Heathrow 3rd Runway. Drop by booth G5 at the Labour Party Conference to discuss the issue with AEF’s @chadceleste.bsky.social and Bertie Lloyd.

Yes - he says "The climate crisis is not a distant threat. It is here and with us now" & that he's committed to the UK's climate goals. But then he appears to be gearing up for airport expansion & allowing #Jackdaw & #Rosebank oil fields to go ahead, if rumours are to be believed. #Greenwashing.

HACAN@hacan1.bsky.social

Whilst not wishing to belittle government support for community energy (which is good news) @andyburnham.bsky.social risks looking hypocritical if he says he supports #NetZero by 2050 but then allows #Heathrow expansion against the advice of @thecccuk.bsky.social www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

If the government is hoping we won't notice this - you know what to do. Please share widely. Any decision to allow airport expansion relies heavily on mythical green aviation technologies becoming reality #ClimateChaos #NoAirportExpansion #Don'tGrowHeathrow.

HACAN@hacan1.bsky.social

The government is now having to admit that hopes of technology such as sustainable aviation fuels offsetting the negative climate impacts of #airport expansion were pie in the sky! But they are admitting it quietly & hoping nobody will notice. Well we have! www.thecooldown.com/green-tech/u...

So true. Another example of how aircraft noise can impact negatively on small businesses for miles around the airport.

Just spent a night camping at Knepp. How wonderful to fall asleep to the sound of owls. Not so great to be rudely awakened early by planes taking off from #Gatwick. You can't mitigate the noise suffered by havens like Knepp by funding insulation. #NoAirportExpansion

Richmond and Twickenham Friends of the Earth reposted

Any decision to allow #Heathrow expansion would mean waving goodbye to the UK's climate credibility. Relying on unproven & expensive mitigations would push up flight costs & choke off the very demand that expansion is supposed to meet. Well said @thecccuk.bsky.social www.ft.com/content/a8cd...
