We welcome the Government's commitment to make dementia a national priority and accelerate research. Nearly one million people are currently living with dementia in the UK, and around in one two will be affected by it in their lifetime.

The large majority of costs relating to dementia fall on social care and unpaid carers. The estimated cost to the NHS is £7 billion. By accelerating dementia research, we can start to turn the tide on dementia and reduce the impact it has on our health and care services.

At the same time, we must also ensure that social care services are equipped with the tools they need to properly support those living with dementia – starting with training for staff that integrates dementia awareness. www.gov.uk/government/n...
