1/23 I have fantastic news! I am truly honored to have been awarded an Emmy Noether-Grant by @dfg.de @uni-muenster.de Since most of you are not from Germany, I will use the following posts to explain what this Program is, who Emmy Noether was and what my group in Münster will be doing. #cellbio

Very happy to have joined MPI Münster and looking forward to this new chapter. Thanks for the warm welcome!

New at our institute: Dr. Stefanie Grosswendt (@stefaniegrosswendt.bsky.social) has joined us as Lise Meitner Research Group Leader, bringing her group "Cellular Interactions" from Berlin (BIH @ Charité / MDC) to Münster. Her question: how do cells "talk" to one another to build tissues?

Yesterday was the lab's 10-year anniversary and we had a nice apéro to celebrate it - many, many thanks to all lab members, present and past, for all the great work and fun times together 🙏🥳

Alfred Nobel established the Nobel Prize after wake up call: newspapers mistakenly published his obituary when his brother died & what he read as his legacy horrified him speaking ill (factually) of the dead is literally the most effective way to curb living racist & Nazi public figures/politicians

If we’d speak more ill of the dead, maybe it would remind the living not to be assholes.

I thought I was a quirky little underdog fish with cool tricks, widening the model-organism spectrum. Suddenly, headlines: "Billion Dollar Fish Takes Over" Holy Mackerel! I guess there weren't any smaller fish to fry. Anyway, I'm still the same, still making the case for model diversity.

Paying peer reviewers works. Benefits authors, editors & reviewers. Hopefully other journals will try this.

A biology journal trialled paying their reviewers and found it led to faster first editorial decisions – and increased review quality. go.nature.com/446SaLu

I am happy to announce that my penultimate post-doc paper (Erik Duboue lab/X) is finally out in Science Advances. This work stems from my first cavefish experiments, examining how dark-adapted cavefish larvae respond to changes in illumination. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Not sure everyone understands that this is a trillion-dollar wealth transfer from everyone to the world's richest people, who hold an overwhelming majority of oil and gas company ownership and stock. Staggering upward redistribution of wealth.

The whole @deutschebahn.com website is a disaster. Constantly unable to book train tickets. Also trying to book a Deutschland ticket with credit card (or paypal for that matter) not possible. It’s almost like they don’t want you to book, so they need less trains or whatever… facepalm
