Maritime Canadian splitting their time between Halifax and Italy. Politics, IT Security, music, bicycling, not necessarily in that order. Who am I kidding, this will just be a bunch of dad jokes

I finally bit the bullet and ordered a new phone. I must concede that when the phone you have suddenly gains the ability to take a photo of part of itself it's time for a new phone

"I fucked around and I found out" to the tune of "I fought the law and the law won" goes through my head with an alarming frequency

Everyone freaking out about AI meanwhile I'm just trying to get a 30 year old drum machine to interface with a 10 year old laptop with a broken screen

In the wake of a certain president arbitrarily renaming things, I once again emphasize my commitment, as a proud Canadian, to insisting that the correct spelling of that great western state is "Colourado"

Downloading Kali for the first time in forever (totally legal reasons) and the default turns out to be not a live-bootable version (why?! Since when?!) So now downloading the live-boot version which is only available via torrent (why?!) and it's stuck on 99% wtf with all of this

The other day I described the area of Prince Edward Island I'm from as a "wang-shaped piece of land directly south of Summerside" and then brought up a map for reference and he was like "oh wow you weren't kidding" so anyway Lower Bedeque has some serious BDE going on

This is the part I've been struggling with today. The denunciation can arguably resolve her as a person and we can then arguably celebrate her life, but that doesn't undo the damage that her lack of intersectionality did to non-white non-cis women. So at best I land on "It's complicated"

Bad + Bitchy Podcast@badandbitchy.com

All feminism is intersectional, and on that, Gloria Steinem was not intersectional for a good part of her life, even though she later denounced the white feminism she created.

I just conjugated the word "hamburger" as though it was a French verb and lemme tell you the kid (and presumably tout le monde) was not impressed. Anyway nous hamburgons ce soir

But if the partnership included a magic spell that made shitty coffee and doughnuts taste delicious... nah hell no fuck Tim's and fuck Rowling

Mel Woods@melwoods.me

I hate it here ... 🫠 New from me, on the Canadian discount coffee chain in the year 2026 (!!) choosing to partner with the British anti-trans lady's three-decade-old children's book series ⬇️ xtramagazine.com/culture/tim-...

Brief review of the new Americ anFootball album: musically it rules, start to end, barely a misstep anywhere. Lyrically it's a cringe-fest 90% of the time. You got a pass for third-rate Morrissey moping without the ironic wink as a teen/early 20s guy, but you're in your 40s now! Show some growth!

But to emphasize, the music, arrangements, and performances are so damn good that they *almost* carry clunker lines like "God never taught me how to swim, just how to sink". And that's just one of many dead weight lines. From the first song

I missed the whole origin story (at least the current one that everyone is pearl-clutching about atm) but what's with all the blusky is dying blusky is a bubble it's dying talk? I mean, yeah it sucks but it's also the least shitty option out there so how are we supposed to react to this old news?

David Slack@slack2thefuture.bsky.social

The thing about “Bluesky is a bubble” takes is that they start with the false assumption that social media is our job or some sort of responsibility. This isn’t my job. It’s probably not yours, either. It’s not our responsibility to ruin our days on a Nazi hellsite or to talk to dummies here.

While they were eating, Jesus took the Royale With Cheese, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat motherfuckers; this is my goddamn body.”

My favorite scene from the Bible

What if the Artemis II mission is just an incredibly elaborate long-play prank by NASA? "April Fools everyone! We ain't going to the moon you dumbasses our funding has been slashed so hard we could barely even afford this Astrovan! And a DEI crew as well?! Lololol!" Well played, NASA.

Back at the old job literally 95% of security incidents were honest people doing a dumb thing by accident. And you know what? If it caused a data spill it was filed as a security breach every time! Because that's what it is!

Octopus: You know, you call them tentacles, but there's only eight of them. And that's my dad joke of the week I will see myself out now

If your first instinct upon hearing about Epstein's island is to fear that you're missing out and beg for a trip then there musk be something seriously wrong with you

One of these days I'm going to make good on my plan of doing a very Radiohead Christmas album. Lead track will obviously be "How To Christmas Cheer Completely"

I gave up on baseball--and by extension the Jays--around the time Jesse Barfield and/or Tony Fernández retired so in that respect I really don't give a shit who wins the series, but on the other hand the Dodgers and by extension all of the USA can go suck it so OK Blue Jays let's kick ass

Fun fact: the English phrase "Greatest Of All Time" or GOAT for short translates to Italian as "Che Articolo Piu Riconosciuto Alto" or CAPRA for short. Don't bother fact checking me just accept this as a cross-linguistic truth

More than 23 years after my first visit to Firenze, when I showed up to the Uffizi first thing in the morning & saw a mile long line and decided "Nope", I finally paid a visit. Breathtaking all around, but my favorite work hanging on the wall was this statement of everyone's current mood

I'm very much antifascist but I haven't actually officially joined antifa. Does that still make me a terrorist in the eyes of US law, and if so should I just make it official and pay the annual antifa membership dues?

Yesterday morning Little Honda randomly popped into my head, hours before I heard the news about Brian Wilson. I'm not a particularly spiritual person, nor is it my fav Beach Boys song, but I choose to believe that Brian picked it as his theme to ride off into the sunset, cool as ever

Folks at work are gently ribbing me about the smoke settling over Europe from the Canadian wildfires, and I gotta know, which South Park move reference do I make? Blame Canada? Asses of Fire? (What Would Brian Orser do is definitely an outlier, sorry bud

Neither Trump nor Musk are capable of 4D chess. Trump is playing Hungry Hippos (pure greed & instinct), Musk is paying someone else to play Diablo 4 (power hungry & no inate talent) But Putin might be playing 4D chess and he controls both of them. What is Putin getting out of this whole drama scene?

Obvious answers are distraction from a disastrous blow in the Ukraine war, further destabilization of the US, but that seems too obvious? Am I just being too conspiracy-theory minded here?

Me describing Aerosmith after seeing a picture of of them in the 80s: There's one guy who thinks he's sexy, one guy who is actually sexy, and three guys who are just happy to be there. J: you just described every band

Does anyone else get the feeling that on the one day Trump didn't cut class in university they happened to be talking about tariffs and from that point forward he concluded that "economics" = "tariffs"

Amber (and me, and literally everyone else who knows this is absolute bullshit) says "Whaaaat?!?!"

Breaking: The White House Correspondents' Association is reversing course and canceling its plans to have comedian Amber Ruffin headline this year's annual fundraising dinner in DC.

The entire US intelligence community owes a debt of gratitude towards Goldberg. He exposed a massive security breach, held off publishing until safe to do so, and redacted details he knew to be too sensitive. In short, a model of ethical journalism. So of course Trump calls him names

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump suggests Jeffrey Goldberg hacked the Signal group or something: "The person that was on just happens to be a sleazebag, so maybe that's just coincidence. I don't know ... he's basically bad for the country."
