I’ve been working on a Python audio project this past week that’ll be part of Spraoi’s Wicked Woods experience this weekend in Waterford. It’s not horror, but it’s pretty creepy!

“What a fine thing capital punishment is! Dead men never repent; dead men never bring awkward stories to light. Ah, it’s a fine thing for the trade! Five of ’em strung up in a row, and none left to play booty, or turn white-livered!” -Charles Dickens, Oliver Twist (1839)

The FAI reveal themselves to be spineless once again with the Ireland v Israel debacle. One way out I see now is if Ireland “play” the game, but the players just stand there on the pitch. Let Israel win 100-0. Just stand there and let the record show what a farce this is. Respect to Gavin Bazunu

10/10 for @patrickfreyne.bsky.social’s review of Reacher and Lanterns in today’s @irishtimes.com “The point is watching Reacher eat junk food … and for us to then gleefully shout “Kill ’em, Reacher!” as the violent wall of beef assaults goons. www.irishtimes.com/culture/tv-r...

Nerd alert! Visited the British Science Museum today and sought out the replica of Charles Babbage’s Difference Engine. A computation machine designed in the 1800s but never built until the late 20th century - and yes, it works. It reinforces the truth that most “new” ideas are modified “old” ideas.

Irish medal wins are rare events. To see TWO within twenty minutes is something else entirely!! Absolutely amazing to be in Birmingham for Mark English’s Gold and Rhasidat Adeleke’s silver. Legends #Birmingham26

the last 2 minutes commentary by Midwest radio, based in County Mayo. Absolute Quality. #speirgorm Context for those not familiar: Mayo have lost 11 finals in the last 75 years and weren't expected to beat Kerry today in a spectacular final at Croke Park.

Saw #TheOdyssey with the full family today. Every single one of us - from age 48 down to 10 - loved it. What a spectacle, full of big visuals and big ideas. The 10 year old is a big Greek myth but and says it’s true to Homer’s source material - so there you go.

Another fabulous podcast from the audio elves at #EPOD. In this one, @carlhartley.co.uk is chatting with Milica Hinic about Academic Podcast Entanglements, which she’s also written about in the 1st EPOD book. Again, making me question my approaches to things. Listen up! overcast.fm/+ABP-lswmB4o

I’m listening to MONO, a Japanese post-rock band who create beautiful instrumental music, whilst reading the Pope’s encyclical letter Magnifica Humanitas. A sentence I didn’t have on my bingo card last week

All six of the O’Connors got out of the rain and went to see John Carney’s new film Power Ballad yesterday. Thoroughly enjoyable time and some deadly songs. At 90 mins, it doesn’t wear out it’s welcome either! Well worth the time

Paul Rudd and the chap of the Jonas’ might be the headline stars, but Peter McDonald steals every scene he’s in. Anyone who ever played in a wedding band will appreciate it even more 😜 Stellar turn by Gavin Glass too, echoing the opening of Once.

So many things of today’s geopolitical problems are caused by the British Empire drawing lines on maps, clapping their hands and saying “well that’s sorted. Huzzah!”

If Helen McEntee (Irish foreign minister) was seen mocking bound & gagged Israeli citizens, she’d be rightly condemned. But it’d never happen, because no serious or empathetic person would ever do this. Once again Ben-Gvir displays his true colours. www.theguardian.com/world/2026/m...
