Cheers, BlueSky pals.

Split, there. Not unappealing.

Friday!

Jeffrey Lewis & the Voltage: An often educational, always entertaining time guaranteed for all.

Could only manage one #LFF screening this year, but what a privilege to be at this one. Mike Leigh: *gets a standing ovation just for walking on stage* Also Mike Leigh: ‘You haven’t seen the film yet!’

Actual, proper, uncomplicated good news klaxon.

I really love that someone was just very quick-witted in an unpleasant moment almost 30 years ago and it's now a classic viral tweet that thousands of people have seen enough times to remember it fondly.

My curiosity got the better of me, and I am so glad it did. A maddening blend of Kubrick, Roy Andersson, the Coens, Alex Cox perhaps… Far from perfect, but very worth the effort.

Ticket secured for ‘High Llamas doing Hawaii with strings and brass’ next April, which is so wonderful a promise that I will refuse to believe it’s happening until I’m actually there.

The moral of this week’s episode of Bakey McBakeOffFace is: never let the public choose anything. #gbbo

“Your brain is where the cake sits” is quote of the series, surely #gbbo

Music is not Huel.

I really hope the publication of biographies of Anita Brookner and Barbara Cartland at more of less the same time creates a literary Barbenheimer effect.

‘Whatever regrets she had, Anita Brookner preferred the world her way, which is the reason that the terrifying self-encirclement of her best characters is so completely authentic.’ Andrew O’Hagan on the novelist. www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...

Took some records I no longer wanted to the shop; came back with one I never, ever, dreamt of owning.

Guy having a loud speakerphone conversation on the bus just reminded his interlocutor ‘you’re in public, by the way’. If only there were a solution to that.

Sympathies to all my fellow Gen Xers who’ve also just gone “There’s a new movie of Sense & Sensibility? But they JUST DID one. They literally ONLY JUST made that into a movie, with Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman and Hugh Grant, it only came out (checks IMDB)… thirty… one… years… ago… … … oh.”

Memorials were absolutely fantastic at Clwb Ifor Bach tonight; a real ‘like them a lot on record, but love them live’ and they were better then ever. Apply within, fans of heads-down multitasking motorik psych duos.

Has this made up for my Cardiff train being cancelled, after I got up egregiously early for a Saturday? Not quite, but mildly smug in any event. Parseword #233 ⚡️ 26s 💎 Perfect www.parseword.com/daily
