Robin James

Interested in how conservatism turned into a swamp of bullshit victimhood, toxic male identity politics, and a thirst for racist murder? The University of Alabama, is running a Halloween sale, so you can buy my book with the discount code SPOOKY till Nov 1! www.uapress.ua.edu/978081732109...

Literally the PGR 2.0 has dropped, it’s the same people griping about the same things, “feminist philosophy isn’t real philosophy” (with a bonus of state-supported fascism this time)

FRIDAY I have two hours of goth and industrial to get you in the Halloween spirit while I sit in for Ally and her Party for Breakfast becomes GOTH FOR BREAKFAST — see you 9-11am eastern at Inhailer.com

It’s a real thing I can hold in my hands!!

"existential risk" is to the 21st century what "terra nullius" was to the 17th: a flimsy & absurd philosophical concept that gets a pass because it justifies dispossession www.realtimetechpocalypse.com/p/effective-...

Slop is legitimation (James, 2026) applied to aesthetics

feeling seen bc (sorry) there is a chapter in the vibes book that's...kind of about Hegel

In addition to the vibes book and Resilience & Melancholy 2nd edition, I have a chapter in this forthcoming volume on how Western concepts of harmony have always been structured the same way hegemonic concepts of personhood are structured press.umich.edu/Books/T/Theo...

Watching this, best line so far was when Kelley calls Kim “a cheerleader from hell” www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChHW...

If you have to decline a peer review request, suggesting 2-3 qualified reviewers is pretty much just as helpful to editors as actually doing the review

This is a very Ancient Greek view, where the only sexual subjectivities are he who acts and whomever is acted upon, and being in that passive position is evidence one can master neither onself nor others www.its-her-factory.com/2025/08/were...

Really does seem like the dream of the AI bro is the dream of the master in Hegel's master/slave dialectic: complete passivity as representation/proof of one's domination over others, who do all the actual work.

You can get GOOD VIBES ONLY using this discount!

If anyone is at ASA and can grab a pic of the vibes book I'd appreciate it!

One week from today!

It’s not repression, it’s incitement to discourse etc etc

slowly slowly building on the vibes book to the next idea

are there any scholars working on prediction markets as media? (bc that would be a great topic for a book...)

As in parenting as in musicking, AI guys frame passivity wrt care and humanistic labor as a sign of high-status, bc those sorts of work (reading, listening, cultural work generally) are new domains of feminized reproductive labor right along w the trad work of parenting

Hm, could be convinced to submit to ICA this year, if you are putting together a panel on on anything relevant hmu...

i wish we would frame the issue of scholars using AI to write as a direct replacement for the traditional role of the faculty wife. this writing has always been gendered labor which is why it (like the humanities generally) is devalued

proud to report on my adoptive home state Ohio, from Ohio, for @zeteo.com this morning — on what’s at stake in Ohio this cycle, not only for the senate, the governor’s mansion, the house, checks on Trump’s violent fascism, and the nearly 12 million of us in Ohio, but not to sound quaint but…

ICYMI, I wrote about how the new Rodrigo/Roan collab depicts the fact that the gendered hierarchy of active/passive listening has flipped in the era of platformed slop: www.its-her-factory.com/2026/10/rodr...

(a little over a year into this radio thing and my DJ style is - perhaps unsurprisingly? - developing into 'secular homilies on the importance and value of independent music and indie music institutions'. i probably talk too much but oh well.)

lol the same day this was published the #1 song on the WOXY People's Choice Countdown was Meryn Cadell's "Window of Opportunity"

R4maswamy, like Boehner, is based out of West Chester. V4nce is from Middletown, which is like 20 min up I-75 from there. I'm not this kind of historian but there's an academic project in here regarding Butler County, Ohio, and Republican politicians in the last 35 years.

Roll over Adorno, in the era of platformed slop and the ideology of “frictionless” experience, passive listening got re-gendered as masculine
