During a hike today we stopped for a breather at an overlook above a reservoir. After standing there for a couple minutes, my husband suddenly starts waving. There's nobody around so I ask who he's waving to. He replied he was waving to all his non-existent admirers, just like trump does. 🤣🤣

My dad turns 89 today. I do see him regularly and it breaks my heart that he's having memory problems. When I called today he kept saying he wants to go home. Two years ago the house he shared with my sister burned down. They have a new house now. But he forgets the fire and just wants to go home. 😢

Today I applied to volunteer as a naturalist at my city's natural areas. It required blowing dust off my résumé & filling out an online application. I struggled to send my résumé from a Google Doc, and to get my laptop to hook to the printer, all of which reminded me why I retried 3 years ago. 🤣

My nephew texted me this photo of the hot dog stand where he ate lunch today. I took him here 30 years ago when he was only 5. I still remember him saying "I'm eating a hot dog in a hot dog." 😂 He said he hasn't been there since I took him, and it is one of his core childhood memories. You guys... 🥹

I was writing in our home office when my husband popped in to say he was going upstairs to read. A few minutes later he came back down to get a fan. Still writing, I didn't pay much attention. 30 minutes later I'm sitting on the couch & hear the sliding door open in the kitchen. Petrified...

I jumped up and yelled "HEY!" because that's all I could manage. I'm frozen with fear, then I hear my husband say "Hey what?" Dear god I honestly thought he was an intruder. He reminded me that he said he was going to go sit on the porch for awhile. Of course now I remember him saying that. 🤣

It's good to be home after a long week hanging out at the hospital with my dear friend. I've got 35 lbs of pears from our trees that I need to process today. Pie filling. Jam. Pear tarts. There's no place like home.

I've spent the past two days sitting in a hospital with my friend of 47 years. We met when we were 12 years old. Yesterday she had a horribly invasive surgery to remove tumors caused by an aggressive cancer. All things considered, she's doing OK. I just wanted to put the good news out there.

Worried I might get lost, this Clark's nutcracker led the way to the fire lookout tower I was hiking to today. He stayed about 5 trees ahead of me for at least 1/4 mile. 🪶

I have mixed emotions. On one hand, it’s 88° F at 2:00 p.m. instead of the 101° they were calling for today. On the other hand, wildfire smoke is responsible for the cooler temperature due to blocking the sun. 😩

We went on an adventure this morning to look for a smooth green snake (Opheodrys vernalis) for my husband to photograph. We didn't have any luck with that species, but we did find several wandering garter snakes (Thamnophis elegans) and got to enjoy some beautiful scenery west of Boulder, Colorado.
