Bolsonaro's loss is not just a loss for Bolsonaro. It's a loss for Trump. For Musk. For Milei. For Netanyahu. For Farage. For Meta and Zuckerberg. For the meat barons, the fossil fuel corporations, and the rest of the neocolonial looters. And it is a massive win for humanity and the living planet.

They've bombed a country nearly every year since WWII. They've been practising their 'exceptionalism' for years They are a terrorist state - agreed now more clear than ever - but it's not new

Hopefully the age of American exceptionalism will soon be coming to an end.

ITV reports that Farage has criticised Burnham's decision to discuss the future of the UK's relationship with EU as "looking backwards". I mean, you have to laugh, right?

Are you listening, supporters of King Andy Twiglet?

The lessons from Brazil and Serbia? Don't concede one inch of ground to the far right. Don't appease. Don't triangulate. Don't grovel. Don't say they have "legitimate concerns". Mobilise your base, and fight them with all the democratic means at your disposal.

Every time they ‘tinker’ with the system, more people end up poorer

Prem Sikka@premnsikka.bsky.social

Healey to ensure state pension (SP) is not taxed for poorest pensioners, SP set to exceed personal allowance (PA). A person relying solely on SP will pay no income tax. Another with lower SP & other source for the same total income could pay tax. Unfair. Cliffe-edge issues. Increase PA for all.

If you're even unsure of who to vote for in any given election, you probably won't go far wrong by checking which candidate has suddenly had their Facebook and X accounts suspended in the run-up to the vote, and voting for whoever that person is

Jim Caris@jimcaris.eurosky.social

Reminder that they also did this to Zack Polanski during the Holborn & St. Pancras by-election. Can't help but wonder that was a test run for future elections, such as the one that's just taken place in Brazil

Everybody needs to watch this video on #inequality and #WealthTax. The stats relate to America, but it is universally relevant. The existence of mutli-billionaires is a dangerous cancer to society & democracy.

Robert Reich@rbreich.bsky.social

Billionaires want you to believe taxing their extreme wealth is too radical and that it can’t be done. Baloney. Economist Gabriel Zucman debunks their lies. Watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNg2Uea6uUs

Lula wins in Brazil. I hope the Right like crying because they are going to be doing a lot of it. Pedro Sanchez will win next in Spain. Now Lula needs to lock up all the traitors who tried to fix the election. They will cry over that too, keep crying those tears are so sweet.

My political education began in Brazil, where I lived from 1989-91. I learnt that the only defence we have is "conscientizaçao": raising awareness about the relations between exploiters and exploited, and the violence that underpins them. The Brazilians have once again demonstrated its power. ✊❤️‍🔥

Will the real Andy Burnham please stand up?

Saul Staniforth@saulstaniforth.bsky.social

The PM is asked if he supports Shabana Mahmoods plan to increase the amount of time people who come to the UK to work have to wait before they can claim indefinite leave to remain to 15yrs Burnham says he supports the principle but appears to avoid endorsing the specific policy.

Elon Musk is spending $445M+ to buy the midterms for one very simple reason. He's terrified that a Democratic Congress might finally hold him accountable.

It just means the USA will be deploying troops to Brazil now. The USA has active deployments in most of South America, acting in the interests of the trump and isralie cartels The American people have a lot to answer for, on a par with the reparations that the Germans were forced to pay after WW2

From oil to cryptocurrency, it has always seemed to me that part of the story of Republican control of Washington was corporate capture of government. With AI, corporations have an even greater ambition: corporate capture of society.

If you keep allowing corporations to merge and grow eventually they WILL try to take over your government. This is just a natural progression for them.

The mechanism is simple: higher bond yields raise the cost of refinancing public debt, giving investors leverage over budgets they never voted on. That is political power without democratic accountability.

We are clearly being held to ransom by bond markets and billionaires "threatening to leave". Why negotiate with terrorists? Collectively we need to grow a pair & call their bluff - and also be willing to risk the short term consequences for the principal of fairness and a better long term future.

Every policy that looks to improve life for working class people is greeted with shock and horror about what will happen to the bond markets. It's almost as if the rich don't want the rest of us to have anything more than an existence

Business seem to think society exists to serve its interests and the interest of capital. The reality is businesses exist only insofar they are perceived to be in the interests of society. Climate change and rampant profiteering are seriously putting that perception under strain.

The stock markets and bond markets are no supporters of democracy, and we should never allow them to dictate the limits of politics.
