Just read a LinkedIn celebration of “made it to 6 months at Microsoft” and I still can’t decide if it’s satire. Is this what we’re celebrating now?

Constantly get this.

a weird side effect of enjoying writing and reading is that I’ve been accused a few times of using LLMs to write because I do things “humans don’t do” (e.g. use a semicolon properly)

Also to be super clear if you listen to Cardigan and pull your ears out just a bit you could convince yourself it's a Metric song. The hook is just so very Emily.

Any senior .NET devs looking for a new gig? We’ve got openings doing some pretty impactful stuff. My DMs are open.

Tried out Gemini 3 with all the VS Code tools and it was really really not good. The Code Assist extension crashed 5 times and then refused to start *at all*. I then put Gemini 3 up against Claude on a not-so-simple task and my goodness it failed miserably.

I should add that by "failed" I mean it did the absolute bare minimum I asked of it. I know this is how Gemini works, but having to add so many extra prompts to "goose" an answer feels... clanky. I know there are others who like Gemini a lot - if you're one of them, what am I missing?

What I'm really after with this project is dredging up "crap code". 99% of this was created by my direction, and I've reviewed and found it to be pretty solid. That said - if you dislike AI in general - now's your chance to skewer me (/cc @fransbouma.com... it's data access... right up your alley!)

I goofed off with Claude Code this weekend to see how hard it would be to turn SQLite into a document database with a MongoDB API. It took 3 tries but I think something fun came of it - throw daggers at it if you like: github.com/robconery/gadz

Looks like that’s the extent of it. Small surges out with now waves, small surges in with slightly more wave activity. Thankfully looks like it’s not getting bigger.guess I’ll sign off…

I remember studying this at university for my geology degree. Professor explained it was pulse energy - a pressure differential made the force horizontal. Typical wave energy is sinusoidal, which is changes in vertical energy. At least I think that's what they said... I might have been asleep...

I suppose you could liken it to the videos you see of an atomic blast. That shock wave is the air being compressed in a pressure wave. Then comes the vacuum and wind. I *think* a tsunami is kind of like that shockwave.

It'll be an interesting sunset tonight here in Honolulu, with light winds, some high clouds and a tsunami. I live in a big building with a small view of the coast and the first wave is supposed to hit here in just over 2 hours. I'll post pictures.

It's super inefficient (and expensive) to have an LLM work on your data and files (CSV, markdown, whatever) directly. Have it create a script for you instead. I made a video about "compiling" markdown to one of @adamwathan.com's new Tailwind templates this way: thenext.dev/blog/creatin...

thenext.devCreating a Markdown CompilerOne of the most powerful things that AI can do for you is to create a script that does a thing you don't want to do. Mind-numbing, boring tasks, like compiling markdown documents into a format for a d...

The past 2 weeks with ChatGPT Me: please take this CSV file and do this basic thing with the data ChatGPT: no problem, done Me: this is bad. Most rows are empty and you didn’t do the thing I asked ChatGPT: “you’re absolutely right” (Yes, Claude or Gemini usually work better)

So say we all

for ease of use and quality of output i genuinely cannot think of a better brewing tool than the aeropress. i have had mine for almost 15 years and still break it out at least once a week

I think this is the most real talk I've ever seen. Damn you @scott.hanselman.com! Absolutely brilliant and touching. "They sold the van..." So good.

Scott Hanselman 🌮@scott.hanselman.com

I just wanted to say, I’m probably more proud of this Ted talk than just about anything I’ve ever done so I’m gonna be absolutely useless for the next couple of weeks as I promote the shit out of this because I want you to watch it because it matters in the moment we are in youtu.be/dVG8W-0p6vg

Your last non-coding prompt to ChatGPT (or your AI of choice). No cheating! I'll go first: "create a diet and exercise plan so I can be in shape like Brad Pitt. Make it hurt"

Holy crap I just saw F1 at a real theater (good one too) and now I want to go out and buy a van and live in it and work out every day and do what I want and race fast cars... what a movie. One of the best I've seen in a while in terms of pure entertainment.

I do not miss the fear. What a fucked up environment to work in.

So, these are the financials of a company that lays off 9000 people in just this quarter. Despicable. #microsoft #layoffs Revenue:$70.1b. Increased 13% Operating income $32.0b. Increase 16% Net income $25.8 b. Increase 18% www.theverge.com/news/693535/...

Is it just me or does the Turing test seem to be an interactive take-home thing where all of of us shrug but secretly do therapy sessions to train the thing to beat the test? Seems like a @greatdismal.bsky.social plot but … it’s happening (and don’t pretend you haven’t had that session)

IOW I feel like the real training for these LLMs isn't the Old Internet - it's our interaction with the Old Internet information base. #robafterdark

Ghosted for not wanting to do a technical interview at 9pm because of time zones. Wild how people assume you’ll adjust because you live where you do. I’m almost asleep by then!

To be clear: I’m fine getting up early and adjusting as I can for the job. Remote work IRL and I’ve been doing it since 2003. Just give me a take home already!
