Was working on Beatrice with a bass student today so I’m listening again to “State of the Tenor”. That album is incredible. What a band! #music #musicsky #jazzmusic #jazzsky #roncarter

Returned to this today for a quick second and was reminded that Jeff D'Antona, Carl Eisman and Giuseppe Paradiso are all great. #music #musicsky #livemusic www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8Q4...

Paul Jackson all day. Listening to “Headhunters“ today while running errands, and he’s just too awesome. #music #musicsky #jazzmusic #jazzsky

My interest was piqued by Evelyn Rosenthal's review of Yoko Miwa and Mikayla Shirley's new recording, "The Midnight Hour", especially the "cliffhanger ending" on "Alfie". Delighted to be in Boston, where such talented musicians live. #music #musicsky #jazzmusic #jazzsky youtu.be/hC3JQB6KOqA?...

The horn lines, snare sound, weird piano left hand tuning. That the melody defines the key but no I chord in the first half; VI major is temporarily tonicized. Back door II V, Syreeta, hand claps. Stevie's vocals. I love this song. #music #musicsky #steviewonder www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nEp...

More to come on this but I am SO excited to be playing David Geffen Hall, aka Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center, with the Either/Orchestra in January. This. Will. Be. Awesome. #music #musicsky #livemusic #holisticsound #jazzsky #jazzmusic www.thatericalper.com/2026/10/22/g...

Nice throwbackish tune on the new Remi Wolf album. Features John Mayer being John Mayer. #music #Musicsky #berklee #secondarydominant www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xF9...

The new Meshell Ndegeocello album has me thinking more thoughts than the BSKY character count will allow. So I posted a missive to Substack. #music #musicsky #meshellndegeocello #covers rickmclaughlinmusic.substack.com/p/cover-cove...

TONIGHT at Regattabar, the long-awaited debut of Listen to This at the legendary venue. Swing by! But brace yourself. We will not be holding back. #jazzmusic #jazzsky #holisticbassist #livemusic

It’s a great day to listen to Miles Davis’ album “Seven Steps to Heaven”. Actually, every day is. #music #musicsky #jazzky #jazzmusic

Made it through the new Dave Holland album, “Freedom Call: Sextet - Unity” about four times in the past two days. So burning. #music #musicsky #jazzmusic #jazzsky

Can’t stop/won’t stop listening to the new Stevie tracks. #goat #music #musicsky #steviewonder

Beautiful soundtrack to a difficult commute: Keith Jarrett, “The Survivor’s Suite”. #commuterelief #music #musicsky #jazzmusic #jazzsky

The new Stevie tracks are SO fantastic. Here's a performance of one that predates the Songs in the Key of Life sessions. #music #musicsky #steviewonder #goat www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhIw...

Three times through the Steve Swallow album “Real Book” in the pass couple days. So burning. #music #musicsky #jazzmusic #jazzsky

Incredible footage of Stevie Wonder performing what would become his first number 1 hit (this was recorded at the Apollo, the actual #1 was recorded at the Regal Theater in Chicago). #music #musicsky #steviewonder #goat youtu.be/YOidjxPM6lY?...

Been listening to a Chick album called “Sundance”, which I had in the 80s on a cassette called “The Denon Sessions”. So burning, and I think, perhaps the deepest cuts. #music #musicsky #jazzmusic #jazzsky

Happy 100th, Mr. Coltrane. Love this track, and the first motif of the theme is one of those frequently quoted lines that has lost its title. #music #musicsky #jazzmusic #jazzsky #johncoltrane www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfte...

THURSDAY! The adventure is always fun with Russ Gershon and Brooke Sofferman, and since I have been playing music with each for decades, some freaky ESP happens whenever we get together. Witness the adventure. #music #musicsky #livemusic #jazzmusic #jazzsky www.eventbrite.com/e/the-russ-g...

This is tonight, and based upon the discussions we are having behind the scenes, it will be an extra adventurous evening! Swing by! #music #musicsky #jazzmusic #jazzsky #livemusic

Was reminded this morning of an incredible concert I saw but can’t find any evidence of. Is it just me, or is this a thing? Mine was Jan Garbarek and the Hilliard Ensemble in Belgium, in the summer of 1993 or 1994. What is yours? #music #musicsky #jazzmusic #jazzsky #livemusic

VERY interesting interview with Stanley Clarke. Mr. Lovano does a really good job of bringing both depth in the answers and breadth in the line(s) of questioning. Fascinating life! #music #musicsky #jazzsky #jazzmusic #bassist #doublebass #electricbass #holisticbassist youtu.be/2odEkMtGZPo?...

Love the new Gretchen Parlato album so much! I think I’ve been through it 4-5 times. But this one, with Robert Glasper, and “Never Come Down” with Meshell Ndegeocello are the tracks I keep listening to over and over. #music #musicsky #jazzmusic #jazzsky youtu.be/1M7NNavMWSM?...

I did not know that I needed a version of “War Pigs“ to be performed by a French band with an Ethiopian vocalist, yet here we are. I wonder what would happen if “War Pigs” were to be translated into every language and every dialect. #music #musicsky #warpigs #blacksabbath youtu.be/8kVYdLjoyPE?...

I was “yesterday year’s old” when I first heard the whole Eddie Palmieri “In Concert Live at the University of Puerto Rico”. Mind blown. The whole thing is killer. #music #musicsky

Was working on some Cuban-oriented music in a class today, and...giant thank you to Tom Halter for suggesting this tune for Either/Orchestra back in the 90s, and to Russ Gershon for keeping it in the set for a pretty long time. I love this: #music #musicsky #salsa www.youtube.com/watch?v=Epmn...
