I took this photo of the cemetery at Aberfan 10 years ago, a couple of months before the 50th anniversary of the disaster. Today on the 60th anniversary the lines of children's graves looking across the valley to the hill that took their lives is still so sobering.

The Aberfan disaster was one of the events which led a few years later to the formation of the Health and Safety Executive. So remember when you hear some twat moaning about health and safety that this is what is allowed to happen when it's not taken seriously

Blackton and Hury reservoirs. Drained by design not drought. Built by the Stockton & Middlesbrough corporation to ensure a regular flow to the Tees in summer to supply the industry on Teesside. Now being refurbished as part of a new pipeline providing water to Teesside and Darlington
