"8" had its Secret Symphony debut last night at The Astor, St Kilda — w/ 1000 tix sold. Secret Symphony is MSO's intimate pop-up series: hand-picked musicians from the orchestra, one night, one secret venue. 🧵

So excited to see this CoW Samhain Festival! Many of my dear friends have been working their brains off to put together what might quite possibly be, the coolest thing on the internet for Halloween. Can’t wait!

Oh wow, I just played KometaVR, a new virtual experience by @virtualpebble.bsky.social — it was so utterly delightful! www.viverse.com/jLPv8GK It’s VR only, & it takes about 10 mins. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have your own comet? Go find out <3

Listening to a lot of soundtracks for films & video games lately… I just listened to the one from Severance closely & wow. There are a lot of things to really like about that production, but I had never really focussed on the soundtrack in isolation before. It’s a bloody masterclass.

Venice Immersive, the prestigious XR section of the Venice International Film Festival of La Biennale di Venezia, is coming to VRChat on September 2. You'll be able to check out the two In Competition worlds, made by Fins and Jessien Huang, premiering for the first time in Venice and on VRChat.

This is a bird that looks like a cross between a turkey, an otter, and a duck. It dives like a seal or a beaver. The tail flick! It swims underwater for long periods of time & has little bubble trails on the surface as it swims. WTF IS THIS BIRD THIS BIRD IS AUSTRALIA WHAT

This one's been six years coming. Back in 2019 Sarah Curro — 1st Violin Section Player w/ the MSO — commissioned the very first VR artworks I ever made: eight visual projections for a live concert. Those 8 pieces became the 1st 8 in my ongoing Circle Series. 🧵

And just like that, all four VR Pioneers screenings have come and gone. Thank you to everyone who came, thank you to those who made donations, thank you to everyone who took part in the film, and to everyone who gave their time to make these screenings a success.

Last night the security cam went off because THERE WAS A RED FOX chucking my one of my work boots into the garden. I didn’t even know we had those here, but apparently we do & apparently they have something against my blundstones. It’s not ruined, but it DID rain, so it was an excellent prank

between the fox after my footwear & the crows after our Amazon deliveries, and the swans after, whatever it is that swans are such bitches about — I’m beginning to think this place is a little too magical. If the water rats start reciting poetry, send help

I started getting followed by some "film festivals" and "writing festivals" and thought "oh, these are cool!" Then I looked a little closer. They're all part of a network that preys on writers, charging us for reviews, and feeding our stuff into slop generators. So I made a list.👋🏻🖕🏻😠

@cyriak.bsky.social Hey! I really loved yr book “Horse Destroys the Universe”. I bought an eBook when it came out, but I recommended it to some folks last week & it’s out of print. Fair enough for the physical books, great job! Is there still a way for my friends to buy an eBook somehow?

I attended an art talk last week where a discussion was held about recognizing art people create online as being just as valid as work recognized by formal institutions. I implore artists working online to document EVERY project you create. Get a journalist to write about it if you can.

New Arca album ‘XXXXX’ dropped a few days ago. Perfection. So good. Anyone who tells me that the only good music being made was the music they remember from high school is just lazy & is afraid of expanding their tastes. This is brilliant.

Have been working on a video about my process of making 3D materials & have visited some very beautiful places to gather more images. While editing it’s come to my attention that my fav faux fur coat makes me look like a Babadook that’s getting way too close to random dirt/rocks/sand/mushrooms.

I am a very indoor creature. Plz know I would only venture out in the Australian winter when it is 0 degrees out & the snakes are asleep. When summer comes, I will not be seen in sunlight again.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I think that Willow (Smith) is incredibly talented. Media discourse tells me that she’s supposed to be egotistical & insufferable — but aren’t all musicians? These are complex compositions w/ plenty of earworms & solid lyrics. I’m enjoying this, actually.

I’ve heard plenty of ‘nepo babies’ who do not have clearly developed style or skill. She’s got both. I also think that out of both her parents, Jada Smith was the more talented & surprising musician. She took risks & was also deeply unpopular. Runs in the family?

Been editing the beginnings of a video about how I’ve been photographing & making 3D materials. I asked my wife (a photographer) to video me, photographing close ups of things. My concentrating face is legitimately terrifying & awful. Nobody should have to look at me concentrating plz no stop

It’s a 2 computers on a desk each across two ideas kind of day <3 Do a thing, hit render, while it renders, go hit the other idea on the other desk, hit render, return to the first one… I am having a lot of fun

Today, we came home to find a package in the centre of our driveway, looking like the large padded envelope was put through a whipper-snipper. Checked the cam. Have video evidence of a literal murder of crows sneaking up to the door, grabbing the envelope (which was medicine), & going nuts on it.

Honestly, I was surprised. I was *sure* it was gonna be a swan, because those things are beautiful sociopaths, but no. It’s the random… actual… murder of crows that are desperate for our paracetamol. I have tried to warn everyone about this in my local area but now I HAVE PROOF

My vote = yes

Would anyone be interested in a queer/trans theory, media theory, performance studies, technology and poetics reading group at the cathedral? Thinking about some more regular and interactive programming this fall and winter.
