Mystery solved. Have been wondering why all of a sudden I was getting so many new follows on Instagram - the vast majority men. Someone stole my photos and was using them in a Grindr profile. (for the record, I have never had a Grindr account).

Given Grindr’s dynamic and that I’ve never shown more than a bare shoulder on my Instagram feed, I’m both puzzled and flattered that the photos he used were getting so much attention.

Trump’s entire candidacy for president was based on Obama being a black president. The GOP has been campaigning exclusively on bigotry since 2016.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the metric used for the “success” of a politician wasn’t “how much money in one day” they were able to raise?

Something I’ve increasingly experienced on social media is the not-so-subtle pressure by friends to “like and repost” any and every post they put up, whether I’ve really engaged with it, or not. Look, I’m happy to help out a friend but it’s not my job to build your business for you.

In fact, I find the implication that your main interest in MY account is the number of followers I have, and not me myself, rather insulting. I like you. I followed you. But no, I don’t see everything you post. I’m not fascinated by everything you post. So no, I’m not sharing everything you post.

Can we have a moratorium on social media ads that start “We need to apologize to all the people who bought our product because…we just took 40% off!” You took off 40% because no one was buying it because it was (and still is) ridiculously overpriced. How about apologizing for that?

This happens all the time. An evangelical will claim that “unlike Muslims, Christians aren’t killing people in the name of their faith”. You point out numerous contemporary and historical examples still impacting geopolitics today, which to some degree fuel extreme reaction in former colonies..

…and they inevitably come back with “Yeah but those aren’t REAL Christians. Those examples don’t represent all Christians.” Look, if you can separate your faith from religious extremism and the violence it does, you can do the same with another faith tradition. And we CAN’T fully separate them.

And shouldn’t. Christian’s must take responsibility for and actively work against the use of their religion for violence, publicly disavowing those groups that do so. Just like we keep demanding Muslims do.

I mean, it’s no coincidence that the greatest number of Bradford signs are to be found in Rosedale and Forest Hill. The elite protect their own.

I’m happy for any person to support causes of equality and justice and to use their platforms to promote them. I do however have far more respect for those who didn’t FIRST build their brand, and THEN decide it was now safe to be clear about their political stance.

Jesus didn’t ask us to be powerful or successful. HE would provide the power and grant the success. All he asked us to be was to faithful - which means to be as he was: loving, merciful, humble, forgiving and of service to others.

Finally as an aside, I really dislike the term "man of the cloth." It's outdated, with most people, including those who use it, not understanding what it means. More importantly, it excludes thousands of faithful women who are clergy and my colleagues. Thank you for asking the question.

I speak of my faith all the time. But I prefer my evangelism to be through living my faith, not debating and arguing about it. A quote (falsely attributed to St. Francis but still a good quote): “Preach the Gospel always; if necessary, use words.” Actions speak louder and they should speak first.

If you have to legislate faith through political force, or compel people with guilt, shame, or fear—are you not admitting that Christ and his Gospel are not compelling enough on their own? The drive for dominance turned the Great Commission into colonialism and God’s kingdom into a human empire.

If a religion is only worth "bothering" with for aggressive self-promotion, it’s a product, not faith. You aren't sharing the free gift of grace; you're just accumulating points for a Heaven Club Card. If your audience has to be “captive” to hear your preaching, then you aren’t preaching freedom.

True evangelism asks "what do I have that I can I give to meet your stated need?” not "how can I use your need to get something from you?" (your conversion, membership, money). Grace is a gift. It must be freely offered and freely received. It can’t be forced. Otherwise it isn’t grace but grift.

First of all, I am a Christian because I choose to be. It should always be a choice. I believe in Jesus Christ as the Way to live, the Truth of who God is and what humanity is called to be, and the Life that brings it all together. He is a way of being fully human, revealing the image of God.

I’m not against “promoting my faith” at all. I am against the way so many Christians do it. I see faith as a well that I draw water from. I am more than happy to tell others who are thirsty and who ask “where to find water” about this well. That, I believe, is Jesus' expectation of his followers.
